Sleepers

Postby Tony Smith » Sun Feb 18, 2007 9:38 pm

I love cars like that, always used to drive cars like that when I was young. Fantastic when people in proper sports cars get blown away. Had a yellow Vauxhall Magnum 4dr many years ago (looks identical to the last Viva i.e. shite!) but packed a rebuit 2.4 with big valve head and side draft webers - 130 bhp at the wheels - was scary on standard wheels, suspension and brakes (I think they were made of cardboard  ). The XR3i was the car of choice for the young exec at the time and I made it my personal mission to humiliate as many as possible. A friend of mine has a 1980 Fiesta 1.3 Supersport packing a stroked, supercharged, turboed, water and nitrous injected CVH running about 320bhp that is phenomenally quick. Had a little set to on a motorway slip road with a 550 Ferrari a couple of years ago it was close - until he flicked in the NOS and pulled away from the wrung out 550   . I love stories like that.

Si 21.....you are a fool! The Fiat 127 was a class act...yes it had a rust problem, but then you name me a car of that era that didnt (mk1 R5 anyone?!!!??). It handled and went far beyond its humble price tag and origins. I guess ignorance is bliss in your case!

Any pictures on the net of this little beastie?

I had a white Supersport with red graphics. My first ever car. It was a rust box but I thought it looked cool and loved it to bits! :D Engine was knackered when I bought it. Managed to get an indicated 85 one day when the engine expired; clouds of smoke out the exhaust! Stripped and rebuilt the engine with the help of my dad and brother. One of the pistons looked like it had melted! :? Slung a new piston in, stuck it all back together with some cellotape and it seemed to go like a (63bhp) rocket! Actually now seemed quicker than my mates 1.1L! Only 300 were ever made. Mine met it's end understeering into a (big!) curb! :(

mMy 1st car, had some awesome adventures in it, still browse ebay looking for another, unfortunately you hardly ever see a 1050 cone up and as for the 'sport' I think they all got used up in a race series a few years back.
