GTA 6 Speed

Just come back from a run to Wales and back and against the storms got to thinking has there ever been a six speed box made for these cars? The thought of slipping into 6th at c70mph+...

Yes, but whether it will actually fit in a GTA due to the gearbox being made longer is an issue. May have to hack the trasmission tunnel a bit..

Kevin from GT0 engineering was getting a batch made but I dont know if this ever came to fruition.

There is a french firm making six speed boxes for Alpines there kit includes shortend gear linkages no body mods are req I will dig out the address and post on site andrew

Thats VEC, pretty sure they import it though, as all the 6 speed conversions are UK originated. The box is physically longer (with a spacer) by about 3" so I would have thought it would hit the end of the tunnel, but maybe not...

Not really. Its normally supplied in the kitcar world with the strong shaft upgrade, so fine if your running 500lb/ft plus...

Surely a higher gear ratio would allow more relaxed cruising whilst keeping the other 5 gears for nailing it around a few country roads...

Yes, it would save you money on better fuel economy, just cost you 4-6K to do it..

Standard Turbo box should do around 80 at 3000rpm, which is quite low anyway...

Ive gone the other way on mine. Ive put the shorter 4th and 5th from the atmo box, and then shortened the whole lot by fitting a high ratio R25 Turbo final drive.

Should only do about 140 flat out...

Ah well there we are then, mine does 70 at 3000rpm...

Kevin's setup fits in a standard box but it's dog engagement setup, not synchromesh (crunchie crunchie)

There are no modifications to the transmission tunnel - Its the same casing.

5-speed gear kit - £1,795.00

6-speed dog, straight cut - £3500.00
