Lee, why fit a CC in the IC space? You will have the same route and same pressure drop. You may as well leave the IC in the series circuit. Like David says, the IC must be doing something and 2 cooler are better than 1. The ideal would be to connect the turbo direct to TB, but the run would be so short and probably a CC would do nothing in so little space when it is so short.

It's like the old "no such thing as a free lunch" saying. What ever we do we are compromising somewhere. It's a matter of damage limitation, limit the compromises and so reducing the losses to a minimum. Unless you are going to mount such a big CC in the IC position that it will provide more cooling than a 10x4 CC and a std IC. Oh yes, and I don't think you really want even more weight even further behind the axle line.....do you?

I want to get the CC out of the hot bay .The two are more weight and you have added ????kg with the CC system .How much more cooling does the std cooler do relative to ........................

That will only affect heat soak when stationary really. If you touch the chargecooler, even after a hard run for extended time it will actually be cold, not even warm.

You want to get the CC out of the bay, yet you will have a long section of pipe leading upto it which is in the bay, and has no way of cooling itself, and absorbing heat:wink: , think about that one. Best case scenario would be to have all intake water cooled, and no normal piping. The more of the intake system that is radiating heat away, the better...

To fit the CC in the rear section you will have to do some chopping and some tight 90 degree right angled hose..

Complete CC system does carry a bit of weight, but most of it is up front. as for "how much" i saw my max charge temps fall 30 degrees from the high 70s.

What ever we do, it will be a compromise. The GTA is untimately a Grand Tourer and it does that fantasicly. Making it into anything else again is just another compromise, but fun along the way. If you had £50k, would you be modifying a GTA? I don't think so. No, you would compromise your resourses less and start off with more of a race bread car for a baseline.

just go and measure air speed or pressure at the rear spoiler. the pressure gauge you can then reference by holding it out of the window. youll be surprised how well the alpine works. by the way, by installing a larger spoiler you can increase airflow through the intercooler by 30% at higher speeds.

and yes, axel res solution slows the car down quite a bit (but only on the autobahn).

Wasn't the use of R25 intercooler a good idea as it can be run down where the spare wheel lived... drawing cold air from below?

actually porsche used to do this. the engine fan sucks air through the intercooler. however on the gta? where do you put the fan? two small ones in the back? might look good, like a parashute.

if you open up the wheelwell and put a cooler behind it, there would be quite a bit of air flow through it. only good for summer driving, i reckon.

Tim Jeffrey (CAR chairman and campaigner in sprints in his A610) has fitted fans to his intercooler -and apart from cutting the inlet trim above the spoiler, you can barely see that they are there at all.

I don't have any idea what power gain he has achieved though.

The charge cooler is cold to the touch even when in the engine bay when its properly set up (Ive admittedly had ups and downs on this one due to fiddling with the engine......but when its working its cold!)

I will whip the bumper off and see what room there is .The 610 cooler is diff & slopes more so more room I suspect .It would still need some ducting to bring good air to the fans .
Not after any gains ,would like not to lose so much after 10 mins running .The CC is more weight but 8)
