dream on mate , a gta hit 160 mph from a standing start in a mile , no fooooookin chance

No dreaming required. Fact, proven with timing equipment, print-out & for a completely standard car. It still had the cat fitted.

By the way I don't remember him being on the limiter. He said there was more to come but thought he was running out of runway so backed off. There were no braking points marked.

The GTA has a huge aerodynamic advantage over 100mph.

KTEC's highly modded Clio V6 couldn't break 140 over the same distance.

Even a standard 160bhp Atmo will hit nearly 150mph.
Standard GTA nearly 160mph.
Standard A610 approaching 170mph and that's with only 176 bhp per tonne.

Hard to believe I know, I was doubtful of the factory figures myself. Even the test magazine were suprised when it blew everything else away.

Admittedly the 1/4 miles times are not particularly impressive but they just keep on going ...

Darren nudged me to have a read of this thread - so it's all his fault I'm sticking my oar in right now. :D

I find it fairly amusing that Peterg/Dave keep quoting figures from a car whose engine lasted less than a week before destroying itself....

But Peter's car ran the fast times and set his records before that state of tune.

He hasnt run the car yet at 260bhp, only at 230bhp but it ran solid continously on the rollers in this 260/380lb/ft state for 3 days of dyno tuning (and only died on the road due to 6 degrees more ignition advance than it should once it was off the rolling road) so the torque would have been through the roof on the road, then tink tink tink, bang...But on the rollers, solid 260, 380ft/lb, no det, solid AFRs...

No offence to Tony's, but on the other hand, if you remember, was detting on the rollers, glowed the manifolds salmon pink, and then the day after the manifolds fell apart whilst he was driving which he had to then replace..

One manifold split on the rollers on the day, you could here it when it was at idle but it was so bloody noisy in there! Got much worse when it cooled down and the manifolds had shrunk back to their original size! It only detted on the rollers when he played with the ignition curve and advanced it alot in one go and then backed it off a couple of degrees.

Why does my car keep getting dragged into this thread, I haven't said it will beat Peter G's GTA or Gary's Gordini  . In fact I don't ever recall claiming it would beat anything!

Aerodynamics and outright power are the key things for top speed and the atmo GTA (on its skinnier metric rims) had the lowest total frontal area (drag coefficient x frontal area) of any car when it came out. 146mph from 160 bhp I'd be surprised if many cars even to this day could match that. A car with reasonable aerodynamics only needs about 200 bhp to make 150 mph.

Its already set I think......I said 'May 27th at Prescott you know you want to' to Gary and he replied that he would be there.
I'm looking forward to it....it has brought back memories of the 214bhp Metro I owned about 4 years ago....revved to 9000rpm, Janspeed built VHPD engine and 800kgs........unfortunately, depite having a seriously expensive suspension set up it just wouldnt go round corners like it should and its best time up Harewood was 10 seconds slower than the GTA did 18months ago. It went up the main straight 2 mph quicker than an M3 Evo though.
