New seats

Postby darrenbiggs » Wed Nov 29, 2006 1:13 pm

Just thought you might be interested in a few pics of the new leather seats fitted to the GTA recently.

The old drivers seat was really past its best in terms of sagging and worn/split leather plus the tilt mechanism had failed. I decided to update the car with a much newer style of seat.

They're a tight fit but Alex (Martin - StunnedMonkey's mate) did a top notch job in fitting them and keeping them as close as possible to the centre line and also as low as possible. (Big thanks to Martin, Dan and Alex)

So thoughts - they are a tighter fit to get in and out of and might be too tight for some with a Homer sized rear end. Other than that they are slightly higher (albeit the old one had squashed so far that it's hard to make a direct judgement) and the handbrake is more awkward to reach - but probably no worse than an Esprit.

They're excellent seats though and at £419 for the pair (leather) and £263 in fabric they're an absolute bargain considering how well made they are.

They came from Chartoneauto on ebay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Chart-One-Automotive (ask for Richard Barton)

If anyone wants a look then let me know, or catch me next time we're up the Ace.

Looking good.

Will we see them at Surrey Quays in December?

Closer than the Ace for you

You would do if I can extricate myself from the project I'm working on. I'm catching the train into central London every day at the mo so car is left at home.

Fingers crossed I'll be finished there soon and back to the normal routine if not I might just have to catch the tube over.

By the way black carpets are next on the list for the interior.

Nice one Darren, I'm interested as the fitting of my harness will be much more secure "through" the seat back, rather than what I have today with the standard seat "around" the head rest, for the shoulder straps.

Yep black carpet's a must now.

They're a fraction higher, but hard to say for certain, because the old ones certainly had drooped. I'm 6'2 and like the seat back fairly upright but with a bit of tweaking it seems fine. With a lid on your noggin I reckon it'd be cramped, but then it would be with the standard seats if you're tall  Hard to say..... pop over and try out mine.

The standard GTA seats are pretty unique as they actually sit under the centre console if you look closely and at the same time are very low.

Me too, I like to drive faily upright, but it's the helmit that is the problem.
I have to rake the standard set back with a lid on.

Looks very smart - bet it smells lovely inside as well. Did GTA carpets only come in green shagpile or were there other options?

Green, grey or beige. All disgusting after a few years.

I think we mostly got the greeny/grey over here.

Or are they grey but the water leaks turn them green?

Water leaks Andy, I think this is a GTA thread rather than an A310 thread ???

I got Cobra buckets and mounted them onto the standard runners which means they are about the same height as the standard seat...I'm 5'10" and with helmet on the top of it is just touching the lining. I guess up to 6' without a helmet would be ok.

 I thought all Alps did... A110s & A310s do (and I'm pretty certain spiders do to... althought the lack of a roof may have something to do with that  )
