the turbo is dead :cry: my dad borrowed the car then i get a phone call saying theres a metaliking noise coming from the engine when on boost so i have taken the airfilter off and the tips have a groove in them where its been rubbing on the housing looks like the shaft is out of balance but there is no play forwards and bacwards and about 1-2mm play left to right i cant understand why its let go really because its only done 1000miles at the most and i have never run daft amounts of boost the oil is clean oil pressure is fine :roll: looks like noble will be a long way off now

to be honest it hasnt even done 1k i have just took my boost pipes of expecting them to be full of oil but they are clean as a whistle not sure really what to do now might just lock it away untill next year when i have more time

Lack of flow or blockages .The lower just drains to the sump and should be completely free .

Has it inhaled something perhaps? My previous one had a damaged blade which must have been from something hitting it on the way in....not sure how mind!

:cry: That was my 1st thought that somthing had got through the air filter :? but looking at it closly its the blades that have been touching the housing, but like i mentioned no play on the shaft :? dont think the 1 bar of boost would be to much for the turbo :wink:

Have you got a pic. All the turbo's are covered by normal warranty as long as there is no physical damage

The only only thing to be concerned about and it is a coincedence is that on your tubular manifolds, any swarf from welding than can be inside the new manifolds break away when first used and hit the turbine shaft and get in the core. This then takes the bearings out pronto...

Just sent a pm to david to see what he reckons with the warranty,(Less then 1000 mls) trouble with the guys that build n guarentee the turbos they always seem to find away out (Not David) anyway will wait n see what the outcome is :roll:

For the damage to be at the extent that the compressor wheel has hit the side of the housing and has ground grooves into it sound like a MAJOR off balance (more than just bearing wear) hence why I think you make have physical damage to the core or turbine wheel. If you can, unhook the downpipe and check there isnt part of the turbine wheel missing too...

This is fairly common on tubular manifold construction, especially on ceramic turbo installs, where flecks of weld go through the turbine wheel and smash it too peices. It is quite a coincedence that this has happened within such a short time of the manifolds being fitted... :cry:

The only physical damage is the edge of the bades, next to nothing, like i mentioned when steveatyork was out in it the first sign was a metalic type of rattle? this was only a couple of mls from home
