Exhaust or heat-shield?? I like to keep a positive mind about these things.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

maybe just an old socket rattling around in the Vee.
I found a 10mm one when I had my engine out.

I wish ...........
No it's definitely somewhere deeper  Can't locate it but it's bad ,really clattering .Not audible on tickover but when the revs rise it's like a hammer drill .

Not asure if this is good or bad news.... I had a similar noise from a SAAB years ago- it turned out to be a broken valve spring- amazingly it didn't drop but it did shed some metal and the compression on that cylinder was never quite as good after the repair. I drove it back like that and had to fit a new guide and valve as a result- get it fixed quick!

Never met a bottom end problem that wasnt caused by poor oil pressure - have encountered nasty cam noise thanks to blocked oil jets on rocker arms - thankfully you need only replace the arm and not the cam - doing so can be done in the car if it's a DeLorean where we can remove the back.... very interested to know when you do work it out.

Oil pressure's always been good ,never drops much below half on the gauge anyway .I hope it's something simple 'cause if not it's not getting done this year

Lee, can you drop the oil pan and have a look see at the crank, perhaps you will see something a-miss, or something in the pan.
