GTA Respray

Hi

I have a red GTA Turbo 1990 which due to all the laquer coming off badly needs a respray. I have had this car since it was 6 months old and it has only done 36000 miles! Its not leather interior but it the inside is in very good condition. So apart from the paint its a nice car.

I have seen one or two black GTA's and thought they looked great but some friends have said its bad to change the colour at least for its value. For the value I dont really care as these cars dont seem to fetch much anyhow - 6 grand or a little more for mine if resprayed?? and I'm not really thinking of selling anyhow.

Any thoughts on whether black is a good colour (I know it down to taste) or if any reason its bad to change - other than extra cost to do insides of doors etc.

Last I just moved to Edinburgh. Are there any other GTA's in or around there?

Would this have been your GTA I spotted last week?

There are 1 or 2 GTA's in Edinburgh and even a couple of A610's, if yours is the one I spotted it was more pink than red, I'm sure with a good cut and polish it would look 100 times better.I would never change the colour of a car........seen it done loads of times and you always end up with bits of the old colour showing through here and there

forgot to say, there's a guy just outside Edinburgh who used to work for Bass Rock Renault who were the only approved Scottish Alpine body repair centre, when i spoke to him he certainly new his stuff but was rather pricey.If you want his number let me know and I'll PM it to you

i dont think it would be that hard to do on an alp with the engine bay been black but it would probably help if you went to a good bodyshop though and it certainly wouldnt put me off buying a car thats had a colour change provideing it was done properly and it wasnt a stupid flip colour :lol:

Mine is going pink as well, gave it a good t cut all over this improved it but try using car shampoo instead of wash n wax dont wax every time this seems to make a difference.
Its winter now so it shouldn't get much worse till the summer. Think it best to keep to the same colour and have a really good job done.

Red & Black are the most popular/common colours. Especially red. The reason is simple, these were the no cost options when new. Every other colour was at additional cost.

The cars do look good in black but if you are planning on a colour change why not go for something a little different rather than one of the original no cost options.

The GTA is an easy car to colour change properly as the engine bay & boot are both just matt black inside.

Just make sure you pick a decent spray shop.

still undecided what to do!!!

indeed that was my car at Leith Links last Sunday - it really doesn't look too good. I was told if the last coat of paint wasn't applied soon after the one before then it will turn out like that so maybe I got something of a friday afternoon paint job.

I will keep an eye out for your 610 - i would kind of like to have one of those some day 8)

Hey Alan - I'm at Penicuik, about 10 miles south of the city centre.

You'll see the odd Alpine around the Edinburgh area but you certainly wont wear out your high-beams flashing at fellow alpinists as they pass. There must however be enough owners in the Edinburgh area for a modest get together now.

I'll keep my eyes open but to be honest I think I could count on two hands the number I have ever seen! (outside of Paul Sage workshop).

Can any of the Edinburgh area owners tell me where you go for service/repairs etc?
