Not sure how far Quicksilver got with the manifold, try giving them a ring, they may not yet have produced, waiting for intrested customers.

If you want I will dig out and send you a copy of Dieppe' upgrade guide, gives details of 'all you need' to get to 240bhp.

Just as a refrence though my engine was built to a 210/240 spec with all the right parts at GBS (France) in the mid 90's. the bill came to about 15K (pounds) !!!! And the parts used runs to 4 pages of the invoice!!

You can do it cheaper now though, there is a guy in Germany (ex Issels I believe) that promises 310bhp (fly)for about 20K euro.

One other thing to remember :D :D you have a 1397cc engine, which will put out very happily 210 bhp that is still very tractable, now for a 3litre (GTAt, say) that would equate to 450bhp :D :D if you make it 240bhp then 515bhp, get it to 310!! and that would equate to 660bhp :D :D :D

I can do a turbo upgrade for the T2, very simple. You could switch to a 0.36 or at very most 0.48 exhaust housing, and a compressor uprade to a 50 or 60 trim.

yep - i can agree

the car in question had 1 page just stating basic stuff

head, cam, pistons etc

but stated at the bottom that a full part by part invoice is available, i asked the previous owner and he said it would be approx 4 pages!!!

See, this is absolutely nuts. You can get 250bhp out of the non x-flow 1400cc engine for a couple of grand, and Andy Cooke is running a Gordini 8220 type setup with efi, 300 degree cam, larger turbo, 260bhp @ 1.4bar, you can guarantee that it can be done for less than half of £20K, even with the big expenses of standalone management, custom fabrication etc etc...

clee - i agree

hence y my latest T2 has lots of nice brakes and suspension bits on it and JP built the engine and it goes rather well

but i'm glad i didn't pay to have it all done

but i'd rather take my 225 megane out any day of the week, just the lack of noise and a/c makes it worth it! LOL

personally - i'd buy a cheap Gtt and mod it and get 200bhp and go and have some fun and u'd still have change from 2k!!!!!

but depends how deep ya pockets are really - or is it how stupidly over flowing they are???

Buy a gtt, you have no heart :D :D Not that the gtt is a bad car ( in fact come to think of it it's a great car, got told to move on in my first by the men in blue, reason " the young ladies 'noise' is drawing a crowd"

As for the comparison of a 5t to a megane, Its a bit like saying a 246 is crap when compaired to a modern F'. Its not, the modern F' is easier to drive fast, but not as rewarding to drive fast as the 246. It takes nerve and verve to drive a 5t fast, the same cannot be said for a modern car

As to cost's, Megane costs money too buy, worth nothing (probably)in 10 years. My experance--- 110 bought 25 years ago for £1500, sold 10 years later for £15,000 (idiot boy!!!), now worth (probably) £ 40k+

Its swings and roundabouts, enjoy it either way. But either way a well sorted 5t is a car to behold, and will still be worth something in 10 years, its a car that will out preform many, including my 450bhp 911 turbo (up tp 90mph) and is a pleasure for many (or few) to drive.

I think what his point is, is where the GT turbo tuning scene is so advanced, with alot of cars being some of the fastest in the country, it seems silly that the T1/T2 movement is so far behind in tuning/performance, but this mainly due to the massive premium on parts prices that you have been talking about. It is just an engine after all, and all these TDC etc parts that are used can hardly be called advanced by today's standards...

If I was going to look at tuning T2, first off I would bin all of the fuel injection and intercooler, fit brand new standalone fully electronic EFI, a decent chargecooling system, and spec the correct turbocharger and cam upgrade. This would see 260bhp plus for no more than £2500-3000 spent.

Suggest you ignore most of the ' I have a megane' that goes better'.

You have a 1983+ car that even in standard form should 'go like hell', if when you find you can't out pedal super m''bikes on country roads, then and only then should you start to worry and start to look for more power/handling packages. The 5t is a 'good 'drivers car, not a bhp/willy size car.

Nothing to do with the handling side of things Andy, its fine  or blinging it up, its bling enough
What the question was is extracting a touch more bhp (or go) in straight line performance and doing it relativly safely if thats poss. i.e. water injection ect ect

How did the V6 Alpines do???

I did own a nice yellow spider a couple of years ago, but i wont comment futher

..mmmm, yes and no. You should really get the intercooling as good as possible first before adding water. On a normal good intercooled turbo car, they may have ambient temps around 40 degrees stable, and the WI only activates if there are instances where the charge temps rise from this, or excessively hot days...Its really a safety measure..

On the GTA, were the inlet temps are astronomical all the time because of the crappy intercooler, basically, your WI is always going to be used, and hence, used up quickly!
