No, a lot of that is WD 40 that they have put in since the heads came off.
If I get the parts soon, I am hoping to be putting it back together this week and finishing it next. I have my fingers crossed...Ive done a points tot up and if I have to do another event in the 205 I will probably loose the championship....I definitely will if I have to do the last 2 in it (unless my main rival f*!ks his car in similar fashion!!)

The good news is I got my headlining glued!!!! :D The bad news is that Meca parts are rubbish!!! They have ignored a dozen or more emails (even one in French) and havent sent any parts. Rang them and tried my best French on them....and they say they wont have any rings in until September at the earliest. Renault are equally bad, they have nothing in and can give no delivery times. Simon auto to the rescue...unfotunately its been an expensive business...had to buy pistons too :evil:

FUKCING SHOUT louder then they will understand.

Also they had a national holiday in France on Tuesday this week so they had Monday off too as a bridge day too. Just be understanding that they enjoy their holidays.

Well...wouldnt you know it!!! Theyve just been in touch saying the order is on its way.....Ive remembered why we love the French now :twisted: Luckily Ive managed to cancel the stuff from Germany.....Alpines have definitely been sent to test us!!!!!

August is holiday month in france........ you want something done..... no chance...... if they had the parts in stock..... possible you'll have them if not and they have to rely on a 3rd party supplier ...... you aint got a chance :!: you can shout as much as you like and it still won't happen....

I had the same problem

I ordered a thicker gasket as my flowed head on a J7R 21 turbo lump had been skimmed in order to lower the compresion ratio.I sent e-mails no reply I rang up and they could find nobody to speak english or did not want to finally I spoke to someone who said put it in writing that which you are wanting..........

....................It took a total of 6 weeks to get the gasket ..............................................3 weeks later some over Zealous use of gasket sealent (previous engine builder) broke away into the sump and blocked the oil feed, the bottom end ran. :(

I now want to rebuild the bottom end but Im not gonna take that head off to do it LOLOLOL

Well.....theres more joy to be had!!! Too much power and torque can be a bad thing when it meets old engines :twisted:
The below link is to pictures of one of the pistons. Quality isnt good because my camera is crap but the pieces of metal lying next to the piston are journals that were part of the piston and not the rings :shock: Another 2 have stress cracks in a similar place. I guess those 300+lbs of torque werent such a good thing after all :lol:

The saving grace of getting forged pistons for the Z7U, is that Sierra Cosworth pistons are exactly the same diameter, and there is a multitude of companies that already do forged pistons for this engine, and in varying compression ratios, and with decent gapless piston rings too... The only thing that needs altering is the gudgeon pin diameter, as its 24 on the Sierra and 25 on the GTA, but as most of these forged pistons are made to order, then that could be specified on manufacture.

You really need to check there are no other pieces of metal floating around in that engine and sump before you fit and prime the new turbo Pete...

peter, I hope you have a camera on the wedding list, it looks like you need one badly.
I thought that your engine was rebuilt before you purchased the car, perhaps they used inferior quality pistons?
