Bilge Pump required

My mother lives in a Victorian cottage that has something looking like that in the boiler room (actually it is the old outside toilet which was a coal store before that). I'm sure with a bit of brasso it could look quite good on some old steam engine replica!

Its all about efficiency. Oil doesnt need to be brought down as cold as possible (and as quickly as possible), it just needs to brought down to a maintained (but high) temperature.

Oil/Water coolers have a constant supply of fresh sea water running through them, so they have just tubes of a large diameter to provide adequate cooling. If they were finned and heatsinked like on an intercooler/chargecooler then it would cool the oil too much.

lee, do not forget the "weight" principle too.
These things weigh about 14 kilos, this is because they are designed to operate for 200, 000 hours which would be about 10 million miles for a road car with an averge speed of 50 mph.
