Had similar problems with overheating once on the move - solved by getting the radiator re-cored. I added the missing shroud thing at the same time so I dont know how much additional effect it has had but it cant make things any worse I'd guess.

Just removed my Turbo and found the water pipe to be blocked by about 3 inches of solid rusty crap. I had to scrape it out with drills and screwdrivers. If the rad is filled with the same junk, no amount of flushing will budge it. The bloke who recored mine said that about half of the cores were blocked solid so I guess the rad was only working at half capacity - enough to cool and idling engine but insufficient to get rid of all the heat produced once the engine is under load.

Mr Jon,
just as a thought, is the water going through the rad in the right direction? As per the owners manual, the hot water should go into the rad at the thermostat/bleed-valve end. It is just an Alpine oddity because normally the cooled water comes out of the thermost end.

The morning after.....
I think I meant the fan-switch-stat, which screws into the end of the rad.
