I Drove it! I Drove it!!!

Finally it goes - big thankyou Martin. We had a play this afternoon and managed to get the car quite driveable just using the self mapping software in the ECU. After a few attempts its now running quite well - certainly well enough to get to the rolling road anyway. Only running about 7-8 lbs of boost with very retarded ignition timing but still felt a fair bit quicker than a standard car - the DeLorean boys were very impressed with how quick it felt - one saying it felt quicker than his 265 bhp Esprit Turbo SE. The weird thing was that if not for the whistle from the turbo you wouldn't have even noticed it was a turbo the throttle response was that linear. Didn't feel massively torquey low down but I think that may have been because it had absolutely no step in the power band. Sounds amazing with the straight through exhaust on boost too.
I'm really looking forward to Thursday now and to realeasing some of that potential

(s'cuse typos, just back from pub)

Remember Dan's Esprit ( a Lotus prototype engine ) is only a 2.2 4-pot so the low comp Z7X, basically a Laguna engine, is a *bit* more torquey even before the turbo spools up. (I have a V6 Laguna going for £300 if anyone cares :-) )

The ignition map is just a map that was on one of the ECUs when they arrived. It is mapped for a bar of boost and apart from some obvious "too much advance there" changes, it's only something to get us running.

I now plan on hitting the twin turbo DeLorean tomorrow with Tony's map (two saves - TONY_GOOD_MAP.ecu and TONY_EVEN_BETTER.ecu) reducing the fuel map by roughly 20% (3 litre vs 2.5 but same injectors) and see where that takes us.

It sure was nice to be in the passenger seat and feel my eyeballs being inverted :-D *I'm* really looking forward to Thursday too now, prolly with the TT DeLorean in tow, to really blow the socks off its owner :-D

Taxed it today, so barring disasters on the rollers tomorrow should be using it for Ace Cafe this month - your welcome to ride shotgun.

I'll try to bring along a GTECH accelerometer, you can pretty accuratley measure your 0-60, 1/4 mile and 60-0 braking G force. If you know the car's weight it can also estimate your "average accelerating BHP" (I'm a bit scepticle about this bit though).
