Half that cost is mapping....its why you wont have the cost, because the Dastek doesnt map properly nor will it get you the results. They fitted and set up both your boost controller and Dastek in a day (it took 2 days to map my ECU for power).....that should tell you something! Quick fixes rarely work.


:lol: they said i could of had a standalone ecu the but the standalone wouldnt be doing anything different from the dastek the choice was mine why would they sell me something that didnt work when thet could of made more money selling me a standalone and regarding the mapping the dastek just letsyou alters the standard ecu map which saves a lot of time :D

Yes, but we've been through all this before! There were no answers to several of the problems put including how to alter the ignition mapping!
I did say less than £1500...£600 was the ECU and another £150 for throttle pot, 3 bar map sensor. If Noble were actually mapping your car you'd need the throttle pot for reasons already brought up.....you definitely ought to be asking some serious questions of them! Perhaps you could start with asking why standalone ECUs are so popular when a Dastek that is cheaper will do the job just as well? :roll:

think youll find dastek is popular noble do know what they are talking about after all they built the fastest celica in the country and i think they have a few other trophys to there name all so the car was running lean on part throttle before the dastek was fitted and it sorted that out the car went in running 1bar and the car came out running 1bar but felt loads better on the way home (throttle response,smoother etc) when both our cars are running good we should have a rolling road day so we can compare cars because rolling roads are all different re air temps rollers etc

I'm not denying the Dastek does something, its just that it wont control the ignition for starters and you arent going to get the results from it that you would from a standalone! If it could do everything a standalone could do, do you think standalones would exist? Check out the paddock at pretty much every race venue in the country and you'll see most cars running the likes of Emerald or DTA ECUs. Ive never yet seen a Dastek in the flesh.

I will answer this very easily.

Peters car has gained all that increase in torque from playing with the ignition timing and running a bit richer only, as he is still running the same boost..

If the Dastek could do this, then why isnt Steve's car running 300lb/ft + at the wheels too on his power run....

...or the mappers cannot be bothered to spend that much time getting it to that stage..

Either way Steve, you want to chat your guys up and ask them. The things I have found with people mapping piggybacks, is they don't have to put too much effort in mapping wise (for the money) as they don't need to. Because you still have the original ecu map and the car runs fine and as it should, and your just adding enrichments too it, you only have to fiddle with it a little to make some gains, turn up the boost a bit, add some fuel, more power...which he customer is usually happy with, but with a standalone, because the mapper has to completely start from scratch with the vehicle, it doesnt really take them any extra effort to completely maximise the map and extract loads of power torque..

If the Dastek or mapper does exactly what it says they can, then you should have the same results as Peter. :)

Remember there was no charge cooler and the power run was only at 13 PSI :) Hopfully i should have some time off soon to get the GTA back to Noble.As mentioned on prev topics, they do have all the right answers, But as the old saying goes---actions speak louder then words :) To be honest i wouldnt really be to happy with the dyno figures on Peters car, but saying that im sure with more mapping there would be a better compromise re; power/tourqe figures ect
Will have to wait n see re; the Dastek, im still confident (without getting into the old tech argument) that it will come out OK :) If not ill be the 1st to hold my hands up and admit it :) ( and buy a stand alone ecu :) )

Hi gt5,
If you've ever had a non ecu car and tried swinging the timing around, you'd appreciate the dastek has limits. :wink:

It does seem to be very effective for the money, but rather limited compared to a 'standalone'.

That doesnt matter, its comparative. Peter made over 100lbft extra and another 30bhp at his same boost, just switching ecu. Your plot didnt increase power or torque from what you would expect a non Dastek'd GTA running 13psi to do. In fact, you made slightly less torque than Lee and Pete on standard ecus for example...

Im not debating the Dastek can do something, I really think you should kick the guys mapping it up the ass. Tell them somebody has hit 370lb/ft so they have something to aim for... 8)
