Headlining (asp!)

Ok....I have the standard headline droop problem that everyone seems to get at one stage or another.(I await the double entendre from Clee.... ) I also have a roll of double sided carpet tape. I tried to sort it yesterday but it created a right mess with flaking foam lining and today on the way to the RR it was drooping almost as much.
I know a couple of people have tackled this problem.......did it create a huge mess...and exactly how did you go about it? Start from scratch with the lining out, or work round bit by bit?????

foam lining - that must weigh several grammes.... you're telling us it's not been ditched!

I put a new headlining in mine its still up used a thick contact adhesive from a trim company (Martrim on the net). Tony Law had my old headlining I know he used it but not sure what he used.

Hi when i got my GTA there was no headlining inside but the car came with it seperate which i threw in the back and drove home. The previoseowner had carefully removed the old foam and then stuck new foam onto the original lining with contact adhesive and then trimed the foam to the lining ( like a tenplate ). I got into the back of the car with the front seats forward and laid dust sheets all over the interior including dash then i scrapped the roof of all loose foam ( right mess ) , i wore a mask, you will not remove everything but try to get it mostly flat then i offered up the new foam making sure that it was the right way round and that i was sure where the middle was.
working slowly from the middle doing a little at a time i put contact adhesive onto the foam and roof and worked my way from the middle dont rush it took about 4hrs, letting each part dry before doing next bit as the doors were shut make sure windows are open ( god the fumes ) . you will need to loosen some trim to tuck lining behind. When finished sit back and have a well earned drink

Left mine to a professional - he charged £70 to remove old crappy stuff and fit a new one. If you're going to do it yourself, the above process sounds fine but I'd leave the trimming to size until after you get the thing stuck in place. It cant be easy to make sure it all lines up when your face is covered by a piece of flopping cloth and you dont get too many second chances with contact adhesive - well, not if you want your new foam backed headlining to survive intact.
