WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG

Hi everyone just recently bought a GTA atmo and am now kicking my self for waiting so long, should have bought one yrs ago.
With full yrs mot this cool car as only set me back £2,180!, its not the best in the world but then again its a very usable one and drives great, lost an Elise on acceleration yesterday, the car pulls real hard through th gears. Im sure my new found friend and i will have lots of fun but i also now that i need to learn things about these underrated sports coupe"s and also get better brakes!.
Looking forward to all your advice and story"s. These cars are way to cheap a 911 in the same cond as mine would have set me back at least £8,000. Thanks evryone.

Sounds like you're a happy man.

The brakes really aren't bad at all, but you will notice that they don't have the servo assistance levels of most modern cars, however that's common to a lot of true sports cars. Try a Ferrari F355 and the pedal feels the same.

The pedal should be very solid though (with little dead play) and if you actually hit the brakes hard you should find they work well.

Check the brake /clutch fluid level though (front nearside light cover in the 'boot'). If it's down it can make a big difference to how the brakes feel - it should be at max. New pads and fresh fluid can make a big difference.

If not we know a man who'll sell you a rather nice set of 4 pots

Maybe one of the discs is slightly worped even though these are vented and grooved discs that have done less then 3,000 miles.

What make of pads have you got?

A few years back I had new rotors and pads (EBC pads from memory) and with mostly motorway driving they took an age to bed in and reach their proper performance.....seriously a few thousand miles.

If they're warped you'll feel it. If the cars not been driven much lately they'll also take a good while to clean up the surface. Just a few ideas.

I think the brakes are normally ok when they are working properly, but they just do not have that initial "bite" that most modern cars have.

As im using the car more they seem to be getting a bit better, that or im adjusting to them - suppose i must remember that this was braking performance from 17yrs ago.

.....discs may have rusted up, the rust then enbeds itself into the surface of the pad, this gives the pad a very glazed feel; as well as the disk itself being rusty as well.

Any care that is not servo assisted you will have to push for the brakes, race cars are like that so i have been informed by my reliable source.

Yea thanks, im hoping your right im going to give it a few wks to see how they go before i dicide to spend some bucks on them.
