It goes in to the local rolling road to have the Adaptronic ECU fitted tomorrow!!!! The guy who has it thinks he will have it wired in and set up in a week....he has done a few different types in his time apparently...which is how I ended up at this point! He almost had me sold on an Emerald system a couple of weeks back.....but the Adaptronic is the same price and cleverer!!! (thanks David!)
It will be interesting to see what gains can be had with fully adjustable fuelling and ignition....and the 3 bar map sensor to run big (ish) boost :twisted:
Anyone want a standard ECU with chip ready fitted????

Careful with the black multi-ways, we've had trouble with them being intermittent. Keep an eye on the live gauges window (F2) and watch for sensor inputs randomly dropping out.

What crank trigger are you using? The Adaptronic won't take the standard Renault pattern. I got around this by machining the extra teeth into the trigger making it a "regular" 66/3

An extra trigger wheel is being added....no problem apparently...the guy at the RR's father used to be a engineering machinist and can rattle one up in no time! When I said a week, its probably going to be 2 as I'm waiting for the map sensor to arrive from the US and the throttle pot from David (who isnt back til Friday)

Coolio - although personally I really hate the look of those bodged on trigger wheels :-)

You can fit a Safrane/Laguna pot very easily, you just need some epoxy and a hot screwdriver to modify the shape of the twiddly bit in the middle.

The current version of the adaptronic does very little with the throttle pot, and why on earth are you waiting for a MAP sensor from the US? :-) That's what ebay's for <grin>

When we did the twin turbo DeLorean, we got hold of a secondhand 2 bar cosworth sensor. On calibration, discovered that it actually measured up to about 18psi of boost

Ebay.com - new GM direct fit 3 bar map sensor delivered to me £43!!!! Now can you see?

Ah yes, of course, the "direct fit" part is important. £43 not bad, I think the cossie one was a fiver, but secondhand admittedly! (the owner of the car bought it)

Well, its not going to be done today! Jonathon at the RR has had problems getting it done because of the heat. After 15 minutes of mapping yesterday it was 35 degrees in the RR and the water was at 100 degrees! Sadly he now has a pre-booked motorbike sidecar outfit to sort so it looks like being Thursday now.
One excellent bit of news (for anyone else intending to do it) is that despite what the guy who makes the ECUs, Stunned Monkey, and David said Jonathon has the set up running (and the fuelling is now mapped) on the standard flywheel and crank trigger. Hes a clever man!
Fingers crossed there are no further hitches :D

So what boost and injectors are you planning to run as a starting point?

If you think that Europa Cup GTAs were 300bhp, 0-60 in under 4 secs and top speed over 180mph you should be running pretty close to that in your stripped out lightweight!

(except the top speed!)

I'm starting with 214cc and aiming for about 1.4 bar. At the RR a month or two back when I set up the fuelling with the CC and 191cc injectors it showed 187bhp@wheels.....not sure what kind of improvement I should expect!

Still not quite there! Its showing 330lbs of torque at 3000 (ish) revs but the top end power isnt quite there yet. Fingers crossed it will be done and dusted today!

I'm very pleased 8) Lets hope he can sort the power out...at the moment its down about 15bhp on the old ECU.....he says its all down to heat and the ignition set up. He said yesterday he lost 60bhp through heat after a couple of runs!!!! :shock:

I seem to remember being told once that something like only 30% of an engines energy is converted to drive while a bit is lost to noise, the rest is converted to heat.
