Different type of head gaskets any ideas?? Atmo GTA

Postby phildini » Sun Jul 16, 2006 8:17 am

Hi All,

I am in the process in changing the head gaskets on my GTA Atmo and now it has become a full rebuild due to a wobbly liner

The question I have is that during the removal of the heads I have noticed that one gasket was as per current original spec ( I have new ones ) but the other seem to be of a superior quality, looks like a metal type three layers and the head was quite hard to remove, which tells me it has been on for a long time.

Any ideas if Renault originally fitted the metal type and then changed to a inferior quality??

no such thing as "inferior quality" in the manufacturers books, just "more cost effective". Normally this cost saving is made internally and the end user still pays the original price.
