Replacement engine

Postby David Gentleman » Sat Sep 11, 2004 12:01 pm

Here one for the atmo drivers. On Ebay at the mo is a Laguna V6 engine, but it is the PRV version, same as in the Safrane. I had look at it the other day as its only 15 miles away. Its a Z7X 767 which means its a 1997-1999 engine, full engine and loom, no ECU, but you cant use the original ecu anyway as they are locked out with an internal immobiliser.

You have to use a 25 loom and ECU.

Only problem I spotted was the belt to the water pump was missing, but the scrapyard insisted the engine was out of a damaged car, not because of any coolant problems. :?:

Wouldnt be a problem is you were going to overhaul it. Maybe low mailage being such a late engine.

David. I've bought the bloody thing now... wasn't really expecting to get it on an asking price bid but there you go...
So possibly a project for your garage next year I guess... Now looking for the R25 Loom and ECU...

What a money pit this hobby is

What engine did you buy in the end? Ive just picked up a whole Renault 25 2.9 with only 55000 guaranteed miles. Im taking out my engine, and running 2.8 raised compression with turbo. Its going to be very quick point to point!

The 1990 models. Its still 2849cc, but Renault called it 2.9. This particular version has larger valves than the turbo, better cam timing, the equal fire crank, lambda controlled ECU so it can be properly reprogrammed, proper throttle potentiometer instead of crappy switches. Torque is lower down the rev range than the atmo, with 170lb/ft at 2500rpm.

Z7W 702/700. Any late (1990 -) 25 V6 is this spec, all electronic fuel injection, not the old Bosch mechanical.

Rupert, you just really need to find a whole 25 V6, doesnt matter if its high miles and just strip of the bits you need. Remember youll need the bottom casing and sump, unless you want to use the one off your atmo, but then that makes that engine unusable..

Don't really mind using the casing and sump from the existing engine... I'll just store the rest until I fancy doing a mad rebuild of it maybe one day, then just swap the sump etc back.

What else do I need to collect apart from the loom and ECU from a R25?

All very well, but I didn't really want the feckin Laguna engine anyway! Bloody ebay devil again.
I will have to relist it and try and get my money back.
Because... if I find a decent R25V6 then it would be easier to use that engine itself.
But now there is a set of carbs on ebay! Would go straight on the atmo with no engine change!
Decisions....
