Went to the expo today and saw the BP roadshow.

They were running two Saab turbos side by side on identical Dyno Dynamics rolling roads in a sealed booth.

The one on the right was running 95ron the one on the left 97ron BP ultimate. I saw three power runs. Typical figures were 95ron 167bhp 97ron 188bhp (I did see as much as 192bhp).

That represents a 21bhp difference or nearly 13%

Given that BPs own ultimate website states that 7% is the maximum potential gain running BP ultimate 97 can you believe the results?

Incidentally on the way out I was given a nice booklet about 102. I asked if this was the new super expensive fuel and was told 'no it's only 6p more than regular unleaded' Methinks they were confused as when I checked the BP website it states clearly £2.42 per litre.

Perhaps they 'accidentally' filled the Saab on the left with 102...

It just means both engines were probably designed to run on 98, and by running on 95, it probably pinked forcing the ecu to retard the ignition and lose power.

What they should do is do the test on two carburettored vehicles, and see if they change in power...

Increasing the octane of a fuel does not gain any power (so how BP can even say 7% is misleading.
