There's some good ones..
From the obscure ..."Ne nous fâchons pas" (1966)
To the amusing .... CannonBall.

Apart from the Italian job which is clearly 'staged' I think the best regest one must be Ronin.

Or maybe not...

"Ne nous fâchons pas" is that the long car chase around Rome or Paris up and down a lot of stairs, may be a Renault 8 or the Alfa that looks similair? If so, the chase is absolutley fantastic.

Taxi and Taxi 2 are both very entertaining! :D The original French ones, not the rubbish Hollywood remake.

Also, 'Vanishing Point' from the seventies is good. Pretty much a non stop police chase of a Dodge Challenger (I think).

And the original 'Gone in Sixty Seconds' is supposed to be really good, although I've never seen it.

Oh, and 'Driver', also from the seventies. Has the sequence where a Mercedes is driven round an underground car park and has it's doors intentionally ripped off, to show how good a driver he is! :D

'The French Connection' has a pretty good car chase sequence too.

Ronin must be the daddy!

Postby Tony Smith » Wed Apr 05, 2006 10:03 pm

All the films mentioned have some good stuff in them but for me Ronin is actually a very good film to boot. And the Audi S8 through the narrow French villages is just amazing. The scene where Robert DeNiro drives the wrong way against the traffic chasing the 5 series was actually filmed in a right hand drive car with the stunt driver driving the car and De'Niro with a mockup wheel and pedals etc "dropping the kids off" himself while pretending to drive

Paris I think.
R8 Gordini.

Vanishing point is all in a straight line.
I'd forgotten about the french connection, that was good as well.
The 'original french' Taxi films are good but overly staged. It's done at slow'ish speed and 'fast filmed' whist the accidents are more spectacular than realistic.
As Tony mentioned, Ronin is quite raw and realistic, so it's still got my vote .... for the moment.

The Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremacy have a few good 'uns.

And the original Mad Max..... you've got to love it, if only for a budget so cheap that the director sacrificed his own pick up in one of the crashes.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Car chases

Does anyone remember the film that ended with a yellow Dodge crashing straight in to a train in the final scene?

ooooo, ... yeah, ... now I'm confused.... Ronin or the Bourne films (I was in Goa when they filmed some scenes there in the supremacy....)
I'll have to think about that for a while...
