I like the thought of a basic Turbo lump being tuned to the hills .Taking the bare bones and making the very best of it .

I can do you 285's if you want, I can do 300, 310's too..

Yes, but you would change everything, so why not get a head start and save some money...

For instance if I listed two engines for sale..ie.

Turbocharged Laguna 3.0 V6...

Or...

Alpine GTA V6 Turbo
Bored and stroked to 2975cc
Gasflowed and ported heads
Big Valve heads
Modified Cams
Low compression pistons..

Now which one is better?

If I'm perfectly honest ,the latter .Since when has common sense entered into it .It's a dick thing  'I did all this to it' rather than just put a better cheaper engine in

Power, hard to say. Its the same as the A610 engine which is about 75bhp (with out a cat) better than the GTA.

Cost, couple of hundred quid for an engine,

Would require A610 inlet manifold and GTA lower casing.

Exhaust valves are not sodium cooled so you may want to rectify this (though many new cars dont use sodium valves now)

You could keep the existing Laguna inlet manifold, if the turbo is relocated to a different position

Programmable ecu required (though would be on heavily tuned GTA engine..)

Nice and quiet hydraulic tappets that don't need adjusting..

more lift =more power
the piper 285 seems to be the choice for alot of cars (r5gtt,rover v8s etc) with out it been to wild so your setting tappets every 5 mins

would you advise me not to go any wilder than 270?

lol  thought this was what i am doing to the hillclimb GTA, although it is an atmo!

I've checked...

Postby PRVv6 » Wed Mar 01, 2006 9:53 pm

its hard enough to find a car in California Where I live that has a prv v6 installed. Oh yeah, I have 92mm JE Forged Pistons and Eagle H beam forged rods fully balanced - I don't find it interested to "throw" this engine away. =) Oh yeah, so its hard enough to find a car with the prv v6 in it, let alone trying to find a 24v version!!!!

Is there anyway someone can send me DOHC heads, intake manifold setup and ill pay shipping (and cost)? My head has been spinning since I originally started this project, and quite frankly its driving me nuts trying to find the parts I need to make my stock Volvo PRV block do something spectacular with the time ive invested. I took a look at the intake ports on the manifold and head alike... They look Honda Civic'ish.

I think I mentioned that I plan to turbo charge it (to get it to run 1 bar). Will stock rocker arms withstand a little boost? what are the grinds like on the cams? are they smog friendly (I don't really expect anyone to know the answer to this)?

AND HOW MUCH WILL THEY COST?

You can only go so high on lift before you get coil bind...

There is no rule of thumb on cam timing. Cars with small valves/poor heads need long duration cams (such as the exact two cars you mentioned)...This is why Skylines dont run much more that 260..

FYI, the 1500bhp Renault F1 V6 only ran 255 degree cams!
