lee, it might be interesting to do one of your before/after temperature checks to see if a noticable benifit is gained from cleaning out the intercooler. Like the radiator, it could be full of gunk? I'm guessing it is just vapours from the sump condensing, but "why" are you getting so much. Should there be any filter device above the breathers to reduce your problem I wonder?

I've got a catch/filter tank ,that could be gunked up I suppose ,dosn't look like it comes apart tho .

Oily intercoolers

I've seen intercoolers on 21 Turbos literally 1/2 full with oil before - no reason why a GTA should be any different if the turbo has been chucking a load of oil through - most smoky turbos actually leak the other way though, straight into the exhaust system

My Turbo's very worn I think ,tho it still goes like stink :twisted: Perhaps I should turn the boost down ...................NAH :lol: It has got to be replaced soon anyway .

one of my old 5gtt had loads of oil in the intercooler i just poured a load of engine degreaser in it and blasted it all out with the hosepipe,i also checked my intercooler on the gta the other week and i was suprised how clean it was also the inside of the old boost pipes werent that bad

That one was no good for me :roll: I didn't think about it when I bought it .It was an early turbo and not water cooled so ( insert Homer smiley ) .

Are you sure? Not that I've had to do it myself yet, but it sounds a bit over-kill to remove the bumber.

I looked in the book and I remember DG saying it has to be removed so it must be true. He dosn't know the length of the driveshafts though :lol:
It's not a big job ,but it's rusty nuts again and I can't be arsed today.One good thing is it will go up the ramps bumend .

Bumper removal

Its along time ago but I don't recall taking my bumper off to fit my chargecooler - and thats bigger than the intercooler. I could be wrong though I am past 40 now so senility maybe setting in!

Just to amend...you dont have to take the bumper completely off, just undo all the bolts and shift it back an inch...





....But if you undo all the bolts and let go of it, it will fall on the floor, so yes......bumper basically off! :lol:
