Ultimate hillclimb?

Heres a neat little video of the current Shelsley Walsh hillclimb record being broken.....obviously its a soft southern course without the walls and violent spectators I'm used to up here in the hardy north :wink: but its quite impressive nevertheless. Shame the sound isnt better. Watch the speedo hit 150mph on a tiny tight track......definitely need another single seater soon!

I've never watched or driven at Shelsley so I can not comment on the "soft southern course" :wink: But I do know that if you vered left shortly after the start for some reason, not much of a car will be left at the botom of the valley :shock: or you could be lucky and do 450deg spin and only slightly brush the grass banks which has happen a couple of years ago.

So what plans are afoot for you this winter Peter??
In my case not alot as I am thinking of selling and asking £30,000 for the car now it's famous :lol: :lol: :lol:

I suspect the course is probably quite technical if it wasnt on video....records are generally broken by people who make the job look easy! Plans for this winter are..... give or take.....leave well alone! I have a small misfire to iron out, may buy the chargecooler and will hopefully buy the brake upgrade...other than that nothing.....leaving the car alone will help me get to know it better. May have a few money troubles this year due to the impending wedding too!
Obviously I'd snap your car up for £30k....but I havent got a spare garage :lol:

Like you Peter I am not going to do a lot to the car just tidy up a few "bits n bobs" and try and do things on a very tight budget as normal :( (Saving pennies for a trailer).
The best run by Scott Moran over that weekend was a 27.97s which is about second or so off the pace (26.57s) My best time at GD is a 38.78 which is about four seconds of the class record set by a Escort Cosworth with WRC spec engine and a few other tricky bits

Your misfire, I had a similar problem on another 21t a splutter at about 2800-3000rpm ages ago and it turn out that some one had changed the MAP sensor pipe but had not refitted the restrictor bead in to the new pipe which helps to smooth out the pressure being read by the MAP sensor and to prevent excess oil vapour from contaminating the sensor.
I have also come across situations were the pipe and the manifold take off are excessively blocked by gunge and oil deposits. All these possible problems can give the symptoms of a fuel system fault i.e.: fuel pressure, as the MAP sensor is one of the components the injection computer uses to modify the injection duration and ignition timing so it may be worth an inspection ?

bigger! Remind me not to check the map sensor pipe again....snapped the bloody plastic end bit off.....have had to buy anew map sensor from DG......D'oh!!!! To make it worse the pipe was clean as a whistle :evil:

:oops: I,ve only done that on N/A engines :oops: but I must admit that the GTA ones are some times tucked away, but you may be lucky in that the new sensor may fix the misfire???
A quick queston for DG can you get the GM type MAP sensors with a 3bar presure range ( -1000 to + 2000mb) if you can how much as I need a spare

No, it is a standard item.
The sensors for the injection systems came from various sources depending on the specification Renault wanted for a particular installation, most of the Map sensors (99%) Renault used from 1983 up to about 1998 were of the GM brand and only differed by pressure range they operated in.
i.e.: -000mb to 1100mb N/A engines green connector
-000mb to 2000mb or higher, pressure charged engines, normally orange connector.
( -000mb is a total vacuum and 1000mb is appox atmospheric pressure.) :?

A very hard season for Graeme Wight Jnr, in developing the Predator. But 2006 should be a real "classic" year on the national scene.
That is one thing about sprint and hill climbs you can have cars from an Austin 7 to a very high tech machines at the same meeting and I remember at one meet one driver jumping from an old Mini to a single seat race car that they were developing for the following year.
