RBS :D What do you reckon? worth a exra 5bhp :shock: just done a search on this Grounding conenser (Not the cheaper ones) and guess what :?: The Honda-Nissan,Toyota forums have been getting the same results or better :!:
What do you reckon :?: Worth 5 BHP on a Alpine 8) or not.

On first look I would say no! The Alpine does not have complicated electrical systems that are likely to drain power....I guess it may be possible to get some sort of power gain from some of the overly complex modern Japanese cars (maybe?) but not from the relative mechanical house brick that is the GTA!!

Prob wrong :oops: But i always thought that f-glass old school cars suffered from poor grounding :?: Im not trying to talk myself into spending £100 though :) just seemed good results with the dyno's for a cheap mod, Dynos dont lie :) think they might :lol:

Your absolutely right.....so were best off upgrading and renewing all our 16 year old wiring and earths first before adding that grounding kit! :lol: :wink:

Just go and drive the car on these cold and frosty days, trust me for a GTA the cold air is worth an easy 5bhp!

Actually on a similar note have a look at this esp the chargecooler info.

It's interesting to compare the issues with a Lotus turbo engine to that of the GTA, there are a lot of similar problems and solutions (and gearboxes of course :lol: ). Personally I think the heat shield material is pretty funky, but then his mods are slightly more expensive than your average Corsa.

Take a look at the other sections and start tweaking those Xmas lists boys!

Ill have my new chargecooler kits from the 10th of Jan, so it will be worth a look if you have any money left over.

Definately a worthwhile mod.

Hard to say for fitment...

It may be a setup where you put it where you think its best. The best place would be to replace the 'Turbo' pipe with the inline cooler, but you can only do this if you are not running an engine cover.

The other option possible, it that the 'V6' pipe can be rotated 120 degrees on its 3 bolt mount, so the cooler could be mounted to the left hand side (underneath the engine cover) of the engine and routed with silicone hose back into the intercooler.

Even the water rad for the cooler can be put in different positions. Because it is fan assisted, it could be mounted via brackets off the left hand rear bumper bar (the bar that comes from the rear subframe to the rear bumper area) and sucking up cold air from the floor. This makes running the pipe work simpler (but youd have to move the spare wheel..)

The other option is mouting the pre-rad at the front of the car in front of the rad, or to either side. The benefit of this is the extra cooling capability, and increased volume of water in the total system.

The problem is everybody's car is different so there is not one suitable option. :?

Cooling wise, if the engine was in the front of the car, would be the equivalent to having a large front mount intercooler. Chargecooling keeps the temps very stable and you should be seeing temperatures around 30-35 degrees. There is also less pressure drop from the inlet to the outlet of this unit than the standard intercooler, but I would still advise running both in series for maximum effect.

I try and design these products to be 'diy' but in some cases it is far easier for you to bring the car to me and I can do the hard work for you. :D

Chargecooling

I've been running a chargecooler for 7-8 years on my GTA with good results - 30-40 degree drop in charge temp at 16 psi on a hot day. Each 1 degree is supposed to give you an extra 0.6 bhp thats a useful power increase. I have a header tank and a rad in the front of the car and have used the aircon pipes (they're fitted on non-aircon cars too!) to run the water up and down the car. Peter wouldn't like it though adds about 10 kg in weight. Oh and run it on water wetter - should be worth another 2 bhp or so!
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

According to some tech mates, you will get very good results with the intercooler spray method only as evaporation is an extremely efficient way to disperse heat .I'm rigging the car up with some sensors to measure charge temps .

I run the spray method at the minute and it seems ok but you can only run it in short bursts....the chargecooler will be a better 'long term' solution.
