Exhaust wrap

WOW, don't you notice the difference in boost these COLD days, a real difference, just because of the cold air.
I'm looking to reduce engine bay temp, to maximise the intercooler efficiency.
Any one got any advice on Exhaust wrap?
How much do I need, in length?
What brands are good and last well?
What width to use, 1 inch or 2 inch?
Any big problems getting it on?
Does it being white or black make any technical difference?
What clips to use?

You be surprised how much length you need, as your wrapping but overlapping. 10-15m should do the manifolds and downpipe.

I normally use 2" width, colour makes no difference really, as the white goes brown anyway. Black would look tidier. Go for stainless clips, but even jubilee clips can be used.

Then invest in a nice charge cooler system, then youll have close to ambient temperatures all year round! :D

I used 2" and I needed about 20meters to do the job properly. Jubilee clips are cumbersome and ugly....you can get metal ties that look neat and are easy to use but they do cost. If you have all the things your car is meant to have it is a bigger of a job to reach everything!

I'll be doing mine soon ,but will take the manifolds off to do it I think .30 M x 25 mm, black ,750 C, £27 delivered .

Ah the joy of trying to get the manifolds off....I hadnt got the guts to tackle it with engine in the car then handily my clutch went and gave me the excuse to take it all out :lol: :lol:

It looks a pig of a job to do properly with them in-situ ,should be doing a turbo upgrade at the same time so makes sense to strip the lot out .

I can't remember how much I used (still got a bit leftover for something else) but I took the manifolds off and cleaned, rust cured and painted them to try to slow the rusting process that everyone says wrapping speeds up. I used 1 inch for the port to collector (3 into 1) and 2 inch from there to the box joint. The stainless ties are fiddley but look by far the best whilst leaving a bit more space if you ever need to thread your arm through to get to otherthings.

I got mine from agriemach and their delivery / price seemed the best.

Don't use the any clpis putting it on, they cost too much. Just get yourself some lock wire pliers and some stainless steel lock wire, it works a traet and this way you can concentrate on smaller areas without having big clips all over the place. Makes it easier to do the job in situ too.

VERY good idea, reduces weight as well as cost, nice one Ben.

Excellent idea ,will still take them off , soak the nuts for a week beforehand so as not to break me nuts :lol:

You'll probably find the studs are the problem rather than 'your nuts'. :lol:

I don't think there's much in it. The clips are very light and you only need 2 per section. It sound like Ben's suggesting you used more of the wire.

I'm not saying it isn't a good idea purely from a cost/ease point of view !
