Bottom Ball Joint removal on ABS car

Postby mitchella66 » Thu Aug 05, 2021 8:40 am

I am stripping down the front suspension on my car (GTA V6 Turbo) and have gotten to the point where I need to remove the bottom ball joint. However, there does not seem to be any room to get the ball joint separator tool in place due to the notched ring that the ABS uses. Any tips on how to get it out?

I will be replacing the ball joint so my current thought is to just grind the nut and threaded part off to create space for the scissor type ball joint separator to get in but obviously leaving enough of a "stump" for it to be able to push the ball joint out. Be happy to learn if there is a less destructive way. The manual I have does not seem to cater for ABS..

Just as an update - I didn't find any "smarter" way of doing this so the nuts got ground down until they could be split and the ball-joint didn't put up much resistance after that.
