New A110 Parking brake and Discs/Pads seizing

Postby MikeA37 » Wed Nov 18, 2020 4:39 pm

May be useful, or old news, for others............?
My discs/pads seized, after the Parking brake was left engaged and the car had been standing outside in the recent wet weather. The brakes unstuck when the wheels turned after moving off, as expected.
However, I see on Page 2.17 of the Manual it describes how to release the parking brake, while the car is parked, if one wants to, if there is a risk of freezing or seizing. Just like old manual systems!
That's all.....

I tend to leave mine in the garage with the handbrake off anyway. It's also worth doing after washing the car, or better still take it for a brief jaunt with a few firm presses of the brakes to dry the discs off.

No room in the garage!
Something from 1937 takes precedence over the Alpine which lives outside.
I usually leave parking brakes off when at home. My Elise brake can really seize if left on.
Hope both also make it to 83 years old :up :up

To stop the parking brake engaging I hold the parking brake lever down, then stop the engine.
