New A110 battery dies if not driven every day

Postby Rossington » Wed Oct 28, 2020 9:44 am

Has anyone else had this problem? There’s no warning lights or interior lights left on but I didn’t drive it yesterday and today it’s flat as a pancake.

Anyone have any ideas or insights?

Did you drive it enough yesterday to definitely recharge it fully? If it was nearly discharged yesterday, then a run of only a few miles might not have been enough top it up and so it gets to today and can't start at all.

I got caught out with this earlier in lockdown with another of my cars and ended up with a completely dead battery that I had to replace. Now trying to make sure they all get some sort of recharge every couple of weeks (or ideally driven!)

It’s my experience that the battery only lasts a few days without use but others have reported no problem at all. Your experience seems particularly bad so maybe you have a faulty battery. If the vehicle is under warranty I’d get a dealer to check it out.

Mine has lasted a couple of months over winter without an issue.

I have now put a trickle charger on it during the winter just in case.

No problem with the battery on mine either, it's often left for a week and been left for a month whilst on holiday.

all the best

No problem with my A110-PE either.

It is mostly in my garage, not on a charger, with just a very short journey every week or two.

My feeling, therefore, is that something else is going on with some of the cars. It would seem the original poster’s car would certainly have problems if subjected to my routine.

I use mine fairly regularly but it has been left for over a week before no with no issues.

I do not use keyless entry however- I open and lock the car on the fob and I wonder if that has an effect on battery drain - When keyless is off then presumably the sensors are not searching for a fob in range? that might account for a drain over a few days of no use - My wife's ML emptied its truck battery (120Ah) after two days when I'd left the spare key under the seat after moving the car on the drive - with the key in range the sensors kept all systems ready to go.

That’s a very good point LMS.

To possibly reinforce that point, for security reasons, I always use the fob to lock the car when leaving it in the garage.

You are right about the security issue - but living in a sleepy village I do use keyless entry and it never gave any flat battery issues - that is until the alternator died , which it just has!

Hi everyone, thanks for the suggestions, took it back to my dealer for a service yesterday and was diagnosed with an internal fault in the battery and was replaced under warranty. Honestly in a year of ownership and this being the only problem I’ve had, and with how quickly and efficiently Alpine were able to fix the problem, I love the car and brand even more!

Great result. Wonder if it was a similar problem with the car I had a bad experience with. Seems it’s definitely worth contacting your dealer if you have poor battery life.
