This'll test the fabricating skills

Ohh dear ...

Structural glue would seems to be true
I always believed it to be secondary but after a closer look at this I have had to change my mind .

All the metalwork seems to be in good order ,no damage evident where the inner arch pocket joins the rollover bar but as you can see something is certainly stretched ......
Will have to cut away the inner arch and see what is going on but major surgery is called for .BigM has come up trumps with a rear so in the process of sorting out collection next week .We can then chop away and see where we go from there .
Should be an interesting challenge ...Anyone see that Mclaren docu last night ? I might pop down and see if they have any resin going spare

Just been looking through the Alpine 'Gold Portfolio' and Transport Source Books 1 & 2 - I know somewhere there's reference to crash testing without the roll-bar bolts and that they were only there for legislation as the glue was the main structure.......... can't find it though!

Basically glue was seen as Alpine as strong enough and was designed to be structural.

I reckon it must have been something like these, but it'd have been nice to know http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/e ... CX679CQ4gl

Useable on unprepared oily metal - sounds like a GTA.

I'm just here for the gasoline.

It would help if the ' non structural ' wheelarch pocket was actually there

All that is left are the two faces that bolt to the turret top and rollover bar ....So the all the strength inherent in the pocket is lost ,bond and bolt .The turret has rotated effectively as the right angle of arch pocket has gone more like 100 .
The words Yee and hah spring to mind

Look on the bright side, those wheel arch pockets I lent you will definitely fit, even if they are wrong in any dimension....

I've two cars here that need pockets .

Would there be any interest in a bulk order for these ?
I understand only one side was available and the guy that made the last copies was not really that keen to do any more .
We can make copies from the pair LeeM has loaned .But these will effectively be one offs as it's not something we're geared up to do production for .
Would need about 10 interested parties to go ahead ??

Lump out ,car on transport frame to go round the corner next week .
Image
Inner area .
Image

Lump on stand for inspection .Cold lump figures .
1.180
2.120
3.130
4.165
5.180
6.175
It seems to be a recurring theme but pots 2 & 3 are way down on compression .Oil in bores makes 5psi difference so I'm thinking rings .Checked valve clearances and all the same .
Still not too bad for 200k

Feckin Pikeys

Filler killers been out in force .No wheelarch pockets on either side of the car and only filler attaching to rollover bar .
They should be shot in front of their families

Price for a pair of pockets in mild steel , etch primed £125 delivered .
Could be cheaper if I went to a fully geared up place but quantities talk so this is best price for 1-10 off .
