ACSMC AGM

Postby simontaylor » Wed Feb 27, 2008 12:16 pm

ACSMC = Association of Central and Southern Motor Clubs
http://www.acsmc.org.uk/

Just to let everyone know........
At the begining of the month, I attended the ACSMC AGM. A very well run meeting, they have a strong committee and they are looking forward to another good year. The minutes will appear on their web site but for now, some main point discussed were:
- MSA affiliated clubs are able to use the MSA 3rd party liability insurance, this may help some clubs to run events/meets on a low budget when venue owners want to see 3rd party insurance in place.
- Child protection. This is a MAJOR issue for ALL organisations that organise events. It only takes 1 person to help a child (say into a car) and any complaint can lead to your life/career/marrage/character be ruined by a law suit. The MSA advises each Club to have a Child Protection officer, as a point of contact and to distribute information/policies etc and to assist with "de risking" any club event where children may be present. RAOC should do this as a matter of course.
- Marshalling: Running motorsport events is expensive. Events today only run because on volenteer marshalls and event organisers need more. It is FREE to become a marshall, you can get FREE training in all sorts of things (fires/cutting out of cars/first aid/administerig events etc etc), It is social, you can involve the family (wives as well as kids) [dads get more 'passes' for taking the kids out and letting mum do her thing once in a while], often you will get a free lunch (quality is mostly good) PLUS you well get involved with some prestigous events, close to presegous cars and some famous drivers. Where do you think the F1 GP gets its marshalls from ??? In all, Marshalling is cheap to do, you will have a good time, increase your social circle and everyone will appreciate your valuable work. The skills and experiences can often enhance your career too.
- The ACSMC is a able to represent and deal with the MSA, and other authorities, on matters that individual clubs would just be treated as little people. It is the voice of the many and gets recognised rather than ignored. If we need any assistance with administration, legal, applications, insurance etc etc, the ACSMC can assist or at the very least, give advice and point us in the right direction.

If anyone wants to know more, please just ask.

Tonight I attended an ACSMC meeting on behalf of the RAOC.
As a reminder, our membership of the ACSMC gives our club a much bigger voice on any matters we may have, as well as the scope to get entries to many more motorsport events.

This evening, John Symes of the MSA was in attendance.

SOme of the main points were:
"Go Motorsport" was officially launced today, by Lewis Hamilton and we will probably see it all over the press tomorrow. There are 3 main elements to this initiative, Go-Motorsport, See-Motorsport and Help-Motorsport. It is an MSA initiative to promote all forms of Motorsport and make non-attenders much more aware of what is happening.

Basically, all clubs register their events on a new Go-Motorsport web site and Joe Public puts in his post code, declares his interests and then he is presented with a list of local opportunities. This site will also alert the local clubs about Joe's interest and pass on his contact details for us to invite him along.

The MSA has invested millions in this plan. This could seriously increase clubs membership and awareness. We will never again be able to ask "what does the MSA do for my club".

Have a look at the go-motorsport website in a few weeks.

There is a similair initiative called go-gokarting, where your kids can have taster sessions for a Fiver, before you start to invest in them heavily.

Public Liability insurance is included in our MSA membership now.

Every club should have a Child Protection liason officer, and the first MSA child protection newsletter will be coming out very shortly.

August 9-17 is National Motorsport week, keep your eyes peeled.

If any one has any issues with motorsport or how motorsport is run, then please let me know and I will bring it up at the next meeting, 21st October.
