I know this is going to sound rash, but safety equipment isnt that critical at speed events in your average tin top (or plastic top!) providing what youve got is in working order. Its probably less dangerous than going for a fast drive on the road. After all on the road you have to worry about other drivers and there are no marshalls, gravel traps, tyre walls and no ambulance or doctor stood waiting for you to come off!!! Obviously as you go up the classes to the F1 type monsters at the top of the sport its probably a bit more critical!!
As far as I'm aware the last person to loose their life at a speed event was back in the early 90s at the Brighton sprint when the rear spoiler came off his V8 engined single seater and he hit the sea wall at over 100mph. Ive never come acros anyone getting anything other than their pride seriously injured.....and Ive been doing this on and off for 15 years now.

For sprinting we do not need to have this, non-FIA will be fine, we just need a 1 layer fire resistant suit.

lee, i meant the suits have a life of a couple of years, not the drivers, hofefully they live a hell of a lot longer.

Put it a long way out in front of yer car
It's in the book , just a bit of black plastic cut to shape and size then tie wrap to your bumper

Yup, home made from lightweight black plastic.
The blue book tells you in Section L 10.9 .... minimun 254mm x 51mm and the bottom of it should be between 180 and 200mm from the ground, matt black both sides and must be the most foreard thing on the car.
Mine is tie wrapped round the numberplate.

You need numbers too, perhaps DG is a main dealer.

I would have said buy a big pack of numbers from E-bay, but I would now possibly say not. You will tend to find if you are in a championship that you nearly always end up being a similar number at most events. I now have a pack of numbers with no 1s in it as I was always given a number in the teens last year!!! Now Ive moved up to a single seater I will hopefully start getting numbers involving 6 and 8 as I seem to have loads!!
My timing strut was made from a bit of carbon fibre 8) and a metal bracket that screwed onto the front bumper.......this leaves you with 2 holes, but it looks like a professional efffort!
If anyone wants it PM me....fits a GTA beautifully!!!

At my first event last year, the old chap next to me in the pits said to keep the backing paper from the numbers, which I did. I now have a small roll of black sticky back plastic and can make any missing numbers that I need in true Blue Peter fashion. After 8 events, I only had to make 1 pair of 2's for the last event.

I made my timing strut from a Cornflake box and coloured it in with a black felt tip 8) Be OK until it rains ,then might go a bit limp .

Lee, has your licence come through yet, I have just received a temporary 30 day one. They must have some sort of log jam or back log.

Probably a decision of the lesser logical ladyfolk. After all, it expires 3 weeks before my first event

I cannot believe that you guys still haven’t got your licence yet; I've had mine since before January! Then again the form was completed and posted within 2 hours of it landing on the doormat.
