Yes, and it feels lighter on the steering too.
I figured by loosing some wheel weight, and a little bit of rolling circumfrence, that I should be a little quicker too.

Best thing I ever did was getting rid of the big fat feckers .Un-sprung weight .Simon ,the steering is a revelation after years of fatness innit tho ?

Having ditched the race spider for North Weald events, for fun last Sunday I entered the Diesel Megane instead. Running in the under 2litre class I came home in 6th out of 8 runners and 32nd overall and had a lot of fun doing it. It certainly was easy to drive fast but the lack of noise makes it a very underwhelming experience. If I could have lost some weight and used some 1b tyres (as the majority of the class were using) a fourth in class could have been possible.

Back with the Spider this weekend May 2 ) at the Lotus factory in Hethel, Norfolk which is also a round of the CAR speed championship. If anyone wants a pass let me know.

Pretty disapointing day at Hethel yesterday. Overnight rain made the track so slippery for the first practice run that just keeping it pointing ahead on the straights was hard enough, forget about the corners. Ended up heading for the tyre barriers too many times for comfort, Confidence now shot to pieces for the rest of the day. A single seater wrecking its rear end in the barriers in full sight of the paddock didnt help either.....Another rain shower before the second practice run didnt boost confidence either although the track being soaked actually made it easier for me and quite enjoyed the run. One bend in particular though (Simon will know it has the bend that used to be the roundabout) had nill grip at all and most drivers reported scary moments there.
By the afternoon, it was now dry but cold but I was still sufferring crazy understeer at both the slow, tight corners although the car was fantastic on the fast bends and the chicanes. Cold tyres maybe? I just dont know.
Ended up last in class of 5....... not an impressive showing by any standards although FTD did come from my class by a interloper Westfield
that perhaps should have been elswhere on the entry.
Good showing from Tim Jeffreys in his 610 coming 4th in the A3 class loosing out only to the 2 Porsche GT3's and IIRC a BMW z coupe.

May the 9th and at my local track, Debden, which I know well and needed to prove whether my understeer issue's were tyre related or some other problem. The soloution was to re fit the old Michelin wets that the car came with, loads of tread left but old tyres which is a bit of a worry but should be fine for the odd sprint and hill climb. From the first practice run it was clear that tyre heat was the problem as the car gripped at the front much better despite it being another cold morning, whats more it was still damp so well pleased with one of the fastest times overall in first practice and a slight improvement in second practice boosted confidence for the first timed run when I took another 2 seconds off.
trying too hard in the next timed run slowed me slightly but was pleased with my overall performance (34th) and got a hollow class win due to no opposition. Although my fastest time was still half a second off my previous best here in the road car P3 RSS but airfield tracks are often slightly different layouts so direct comparisons are not so reliable-go on Stephen, enter a few events!
Well done Bob Gibson with another class win and an impressive 15th overall.
Next stop will be Prescott and those tyres are staying on!
