This Sunday, 28 Sep, I will be sprinting at North Weald (just near M25/M11 Junction), as will Mark in his Spider also a Clio Cup 182 car is competing. I have a spare Vehicle Pass, no idea about spectaor access as I have not been to this venus before.

Mark, can spectators get in easily?

Yes, although classed as a non spectator event, usually you can come and go with no problem if you have the vehicle pass. There is a security gate to go through so dont turn up without a pass. I too have a spare should anyone want to come and support the RAOC team at this event.

ps do not attempt to arrive via North Weald town as there is no airfield access, the main entrance is from the A414 and is only 1 minute away from junc 7 of the M11. There is normally a burger van on site for snacks and drinks etc.

Mark,

http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=north+ ... 1:14|north weald|North Weald, Epping, Essex, England, CM16 6

So after I come of the M11 at J7, go down A414, do I take a right at the first roundabout into Rayley Lane....... then what, or is it all well signposted?

Yes, turn right at the first roundabout then right again at the second, well signposted due mainly to Saturday market..... have to go past the gate house and do a nice 180 around another roundabout (gets your tyres warmed up!) and come back on yourself due to there being a no right turn at the gate house. Once through the barrier, turn left and keep going around the perimiter road, the paddock will be on your right.

Thanks for the Law's for turning up, always great to have a bit of support. I finished second in my class and closed the gap on a competitor who beat me by 8 seconds last time here and I have closed him down to only 2/10ths of a second- I really should have had him but still need to find some speed. Simon, as ever, did a great job on his first visit here- good to have another club member on the same event. lets hope for some more Alpine entry's next season.

Next week it is Debden, near Saffron Walden, Essex and I have spare vehicle passes should anyone wish to come. A new track to me but for most others its their 3rd visit of the year so I am already at a disadvantage.

If you mean the collection at Flins tour then stay posted as we may have some news on that front very soon. There is a seperate thread on that subject.

Well I thought about it and then had a change of heart, last sprint of my year and a local one as well so went ahead. Thanks to the wife I managed to get my van on site so for once had a full tool kit and some shelter with me.
So glad I went though as it was a nice event on a fast, challenging circuit and despite a wrong route on my second practice run, manged to pull a fast time out on my final run. The conditions by then were terrible, standing water just waiting to catch you out but despite some almost eyes closed moments (and a strange issue when changing from second to third when I am sure it stayed in second even thought the gearstick was in the third postion causing me to cross the finish line bouncing off the limiter) I kept it all together and set the 3rd best time in class. (the class had been amalgameted so there were 8 or so runners this time).
Highlight of the day was watching the 620BHP Pilbeam running on slicks! The guy deserved a medal just for bringing it home.
It will come as no surprise to Simon Taylor to learn that Kim Adams set the FTD in his lancer evo thang.
All in all a good day and I am glad I made the effort. thanks also to Lee Metters for popping by in support during the day.

A few pictures of Mark in action

Postby mettersl » Mon Oct 06, 2008 7:43 pm

Mark did well considering the weather- I only managed half an hour up there until I was soaked- just the right weather for a Spider!

How on earth did you manage to get a picture of a car catching fire...... IN THE RAIN? Now that was bad luck.

Mark, how were your times compared to the Ferraris?

no Ferraris last weekend, think those photo's are of an earlier North Weald sprint. IIRC most of the Ferraris spun at the first bend, lemming like!
