Windscreen surround - rubber trim

Postby scottydog » Sat Oct 28, 2006 1:38 pm

Hi - it's been suggested that I get my windscreen removed and resealed to try to solve the water ingress problem my GTA has. Might give this a go if all else fails.

Could anyone advise where a replacement rubber trim can be sourced from? The glass is no problem (if the existing one breaks which apparently it may because if de-lamination) but it seems the trim may be.

(Visited a local Renault dealer for the first time today - incredibly unhelpful - so no chance of getting anything from them!)

Thanks very much.

Simon.

I think you'll find it's Renault sourced only and quite often on back-order.

Your local Renault dealer should be able to get it for you if you give them the parts number, but yes they're often useless.

When I had my windscreen replaced by Autoglass (or whoever it was) 5 odd years ago they handled the whole thing for me. They sourced the windscreen from Pilkington I seem to remember, but got the surround from Renault after a few weeks wait. The good thing was that since this was all done due to a crack, and therefore an insurance job, I only paid the 50 quid excess. Hate to think what the glass, trim and labour would be otherwise.

By the way it's a bonded screen so part of the torsional strength of the car. They really should bond it in with the car parked on a flat surface and then left 24 hrs before it's driven. (I took mine in on the Friday morning and collected it on the Sat)
I'm just here for the gasoline.

I got a new seal from renault last year- about 70-80 quid from memory. You MAY be able to re-use the original one (its only cosmetic as the screen is bonded in) but it may be attached to the windscreen bonding material making this difficult. The screen needs to be removed with a cheese wire- and unless you can get the rubber off first, it will probably get damaged during this process.
The screens are good value- I got it supplied and fitted for 180, plus the seal.
I THINK the seal part number is 60 01 015 190- but get the dealer to look it up on their system- theirs is all PC based and should only take seconds.
Cheers

Im in the process of replacing mine - Has anyone tried omitting the ruber seal - A flush mastic seal between body and glass could be achieved ? probably more aerodynamic then the original as well!!!

Renault are Quoting me €185 +vat for the seal - They also quoted € 780 for the screen (supply only)- any alternative cheap source on seals?

Insurance co windscreen replacement is the best bet as it should include the seal - as long as you've got just cause to claim they should hopefully pay as it's an integral part of the fitment.

I use a local company, and if I remember correctly they use a Citroen variant trim, CX or similar, and its a better fit and slightly larger, softer bevel edge than the original GTA one. Ill find out the exact type and post it up..

hi kevin, most mobile windscreen fitters carry a range of different seal profiles that they can make up new seal at the road side.

phone around your local guys, if you have no luck then i could suggest ravernet auto parts who do mobile screen fitting in the north. i have used them for 3 different GTA screens. tel no. 0044 2892 673237
