Famous Alpines on TV

Postby Lee G » Mon May 31, 2004 8:44 pm

I was chatting with my mate earlier on and we remembered seeing a really bad soap called Eldorado set out in spain or somewhere.

The highlight of the programme was some dodgy character called Marcus Tandy who spent most of his time burning around in a British registered RHD A610 in dark metallic red (an early one I think, probably J reg).

Just out of interest, does anyone know if it still exists, or did it sink with the programme?

Also, does anyone know of any other famous Alpines used on TV?

Not sure if the a610 is still about, but i know they didn't blow it up at the end of the series (as they would like us to think), as just before the final 'exploding conclusion' it was replaced with a TR7 and that went up in smoke!!!
There was a programme on years ago, set in Southampton called 'Howards Way'. The bad guy in that series always drove around in a GTA and it seemed to be a different one every year... Lucky Git!

If you didn't know better, you'd think that these programme makers think that all alpine drivers are crooks!!!!

The A610 from Eldorado belongs to a guy up North and he uses it for tack days etc. Details are a bit sketchy as this was a passing conversation I had with a guy who had seen my GTA and the A610 owner in question was his uncle.

Funny. I always remember it as a blue GTA in Eldorado not an A610...
Not that I watched it of course !!

I confess.... I did actually watch it  however, it was purely for the A610!!!

Its good news that the owner of the car is still using it though - I knew a guy who owned one of the Capri's used in the Professionals and he did about 400miles in 6 years of ownership - although with the Capri's brakes I can't say I blame him

I support Rupert, I thought the Eldorado car was blue too.

The Eldorado car was definitely dark metallic blue! The only reason for watching what was a truly awful program!

It was definately a Dark blue metallic GTA on Eldorado. My GTA originates from Southampton...I wonder if it appeared on Howards Way!

It wasnt....it was an A610! They had the car being blown up sequence on a program about Eldorado (and what a failure it was and how the makers didnt really blow up the Alpine) not that long ago.

Ok, you seem rather adamant it was an A610 but it was however definately dark blue!

I agree that the car was a blue A610 that Marcoooooooos owned but just to settle it once and for all, see this link : http://members.madasafish.com/~jimbotw/pbceg.ra

I know - I really should get out more.
