CAUGHT DOING 101MPH on M1>>>>>>>>>

Postby shadmonk » Sun Jul 03, 2005 9:13 pm

REAL BAD NEWS,,,,!!
Coming back from santa pod today I was pulled over and caught doing 101MPH by the polizia. was at around 6pm on the M1 heading into london, near Neasden. I was speeding for around 15 seconds while overtaking a Merc, who then chased me for a bit, but they only pulled me over, and the Merc got away!! They recorded my speed using designated markings on the road.
Has anyone got any advice :( :( . I know im stupid to be speeding there of all places.
I had 3 points over 4 years ago, which i think will have cleared now.----Am i looking at a ban???

THANKS,

Shadi

Maybe, but if you do get banned it will only be for a few weeks at most.

Read over this lot, I escaped the law using vital information found from the ACPO guidelines on speeding. I was 'accused of speeding by the use of a laser gun and challenged the facts...

Oh, and another thing....

Go through the guidelines then go through them again, check the nit you were most likely handed at the time then go through it again against the information in the guidelines. There may be a discrepancy on the nit, also check distances in the guidlines, calibration schedules, the circumstances you were in at the time etc etc.

It took me a few weeks until I came across my vital information.

Out of interest what did you say when you were read your rights? Either "No comment" or "I didn't realise" are the best things to say, less is more in these unfortunate situations!

Good luck!

Have a look at www.pepipoo.com as well.

I'm glad I took the M25 round to the M40 now :!:

Its Vascar that youve been got by which is basically a glorified stop watch that they switch on when you cross one white square on the road and then stop when you cross the 2nd and then it works out average speed so there is no calibration of machinery as such. They will also have it on video no doubt. The one thing that may be wrong is the distance between the 2 squares on the road. When I worked for Herts police the 2 squares turned out to be a couple of metres too close together.......but its a very difficult one to measure on a busy motorway.
On the nit front, you may have had a verbal one at the roadside but you will almost certainly receive a written one in the post (which will probably be a pre formatted thing), they need to send it to you within 14 days or they cant proceed.

101mph ??? Is that all :-)

I was caught on Vascar doing 121.6mph, but it was at 2.00am in the morning on the M1 near Nottingham, dry road, good visibility, not driving like a fool.

Got pulled over and shown the speed, my heart sank, but then the officer pressed a button on the display and 99.3mph popped up.

That was the speed he did me at. He was a nice chap really, didnt try to undermine me or talk down to me, and even commented that my driving was good, apart from the speed.

Anyway, I got 5 points and a £170 fine, plus costs of £35 pounds.

Thanks guys, but i suppose what i'm most worried about is whether a ban would really affect my insurance premium... :?

Its bound to.......insurance companies never miss an opportunity to bump up your premium. The man who owns the garage I do a lot of my work at got caught at 55mph in a 30 one night (it was middle of the night...but then they followed him in a marked vehicle for about a mile and he never noticed  ) and he got a 28 day ban. His premium went up by the equivalent of getting 6 points......but I dont know what that was in cash.

Well im on 8 points now :-(

And my insurance only went up by £30.

The guy at Adrian Flux said most insurance companies expect you to have at least 3 points, so they only load the premium if you have more than this.

Have a look through the web-sites and see if you can get out of it.

I also got pulled over on the M1 beneath Nottingham, have come to the conclusion that the Leicester police are complete b*******ds, i got 3 points ontop of the 3 i already have for doing 91 at midnight on a virtually empty road!..... would have felt pretty bad about that but was doing well over a ton prior to over taking him (plane clothed volvo) so felt relieved when he told me my average speed....... really hate i though when they start asking questions about the car..... car insurance wasnt really effected but know it pushed up by motorbike insurance for some reason.

Yeh, that "average speed" bit is good. Once got a ticking off from a bike cop for 97.43 average over 5 and a bit miles. That was fine by me as 2 miles of it was in a single lane contra flow at under 50 in the traffic. One can only guess what the non-contra flow speeds were???. I've no-idea, as it was pedel to the metal in a factory demonstator.

If there were no cops on the roads, what do you think the standard of most people's driving would be. Well, we just have to put up with them and try to avoid them more than most.
