A610 Breakdown - fixed!!

As you may recall, I broke down in my A610 last Thursday. Turns out it was the simplest of problems! I had run out of fuel!

But in my defence, the fuel gauge was showing 10.1 gallons! I am now wondering whether it has got a R21 fuel computer in it, which might not be calibrated correctly to the A610. I have the original computer - I know it was replaced at some point, so my next task will be to refit the original computer, but swap over the working display from the current one (I already did that job on my Quadra).

In taking a look at things, the garage found that one of the spark plug recesses was full of water - that would definitely be a contributory factor to the misfire. The top bleed screw wasn't done up tightly when I first got the car. Glad we found that!

Now looking forward to the next chapter! Aircon to be fixed next.

In other good news, my Gordini Turbo passed its MOT - first time back on the road in nearly three years! I fitted a 123-Tune electronic distributor, which should get rid of the issues I had with the old Renix ignition module (very conservative advance curve off boost, coil pack failures, etc.).

I'm just glad it was something simple. I was imagining all sorts of complicated things. Occam's razor strikes again!

So... Is the 21 fuel computer the same as the 610? I am wondering if they are different and that's what caused the confusion.

I am considering a 123 (std - not writable) distributor conversion for my R5 Gordini engined A110.

Would you recommend this or have any helpful comments.

Hi - we should really have a separate thread for this, but...

You'll need to use the 123-tune I am afraid. 123 ignition do not manufacture a distributor that fits the Alpine engine. You need to buy one from these people:

They have adapted it with a longer drive shaft.

I really do recommend it - I am very happy with mine (although it's only been on the car for a few days). Initial impressions are that it is superb!

You just need to make sure it's installed the correct way (not 180 degrees out, as I first had mine!). And google for the advance curve to start off with. Someone else has done one for the GT Turbo, which could act as a starting point, but you will need to map it much further to improve it. Can be done via a laptop with someone in the passenger seat of the car.

Yes, physically the ren 21 turbo computer is the same as the A610 but the software or electronics are different.
You can swap the lcds but must retain the original electronics or you get useless data.
The CAR magazine had an article on how to do this one once....if I'm allowed the mention the "other place"
On the air con....the system is designed for r30....no longer available.
If you run it on st24 you get good results, I wasn't as happy on isceon 49( less cooling subjectively) and on 134, the easiest gas to find, the performance will be lower still. You need to find a new receiver dryer, it's the ren 25 one and fits some Jaguars too, they are usually on eBay. On my car regassing it the first time blocked the filter in the recipe over dryer. Once that was changed, everyithing worked well.
For all these newer gases you ideally need a larger condenser, so be realistic in your expectations.
That said without the AC at all, they get very hot in the summer if you are in the south.
I have found that a v1 bmw mini condenser is the same size as the original, but smaller, lighter and more effecinet. I'll let you know how I get on when my GTA gets to that stage.

Have a few brand new A610 instrument clusters if you want a new trip computer and a much lower mileage car lol
