Hi

Have had a really bad day as some clown drove into my front off side wing knocking a bit out of it ,wiping off wing mirrors
I think deforming the front bumper and damaging offside front wheel also nearside front wheel where I hit kerb trying to avoid
him also knocked loose the three switches to right of steering wheel.
insurance company say to take to preferred garage but due to construction is this wise any suggestions ?

thanks dave G

What a shame...I'm not sure if the clubs resident bodywork man is taking booking anymore.
I'd ask Clee and John Law (JL Engineering) before taking it anywhere. You certainly need a composite body specialist, there are a few around.
Do the doors still close properly and the car still drive straight without pulling?
I'm sure its less serious than it looks.

Hi Lee`

Good things, doors open and close windows raise and lower as before headlights raise and lower as before, only fault is that the offside mirror control has stopped working although there are clicks when you try. Have driven it and all seems OK pulls up straight and doesn’t wander
Had body work guy from local garage give it the once over and all the contacted panels straight and true no cracks, luckily only the front wing and edge of bumper
Just a bit of a lump, size of an old penny gouged out so hopefully not as bad as it first looks.even comparing what I though was a slight distortion of the bumper on looking at old photos it was there before so feeling a lot happier now
The accident was recorded on a guys in car camera who stopped as did a couple of others and all blame according to camera and eye witness on other driver.
Just question re the mirrors they look as if they would just push back in is that right? and does anyone have the triangular shaped rubber seal for where the mirror joins housing (see attachment)

Thanks Dave g

That doesn't look too bad at all on the face of it, a lucky escape for the 610! Sounds like you are OK as well which is the main thing.

Looks like it will have to be a front end respray though to make sure everything matches.

I have no seals or mirrors left sorry.

Just question re the mirrors they look as if they would just push back in is that right? and does anyone have the triangular shaped rubber seal for where the mirror joins housing (see attachment)

With regard to the clicking of the mirror ..... it sounds as if the jolt to the mirror has jerked it to its limit of movement. If you watch the mirror when you try to adjust it ...... is to jerking in sympathy with the clicks. if so you can centralize the mirror by applying pressure with your thumb on the glass. ...... in four directions. I am sure you can get an idea of where the mirror glass should be when you are in the drivers seat for viewing down the side of the car ...... get it there manually by pushing on the glass ..... when you get it approximately right, the motor should be able to fine tune the position.
I hope you understand what I mean ....... this is one of these jobs which is easier to do than explain how to do it. ;)

And, to the second question, Yes, the mirror body just clips back into the base unit on the glass panel ..... suggest you put a bit of grease in the clip and where the two pins slide into the housing. Might be worth making sure the pins are free to move and not partially seized. You will have to push quite hard to compress the spring between the pins.
You could try Renault for the "gasket", they had them not so ling ago.

Hi

On closer examination the offside mirror is not working because two of the four wires have been pulled off the terminal inside the mirror so things not to bad after the initial shock of it all+

All looks very superficial and I'm sure a good body shop will soon have it looking as good as new.

Mirrors and seals all in stock so no problems there.

Good luck with the fix and just shout if you need anything
