I'm interested in tapping into your collective experience for some advice.
Prior to purchase by me several years ago, my black '86 GTA had been given a respray. Unfortunately, the bonnet was sanded a little too vigorously, rubbing through the gel coat. An excellent painter here has tried twice to respray this, but each time after about six months little "craze-cracks) appear in the paint. He now suggests the only solution is to get the bonnet re-gel coated.
I'm keen to get this car as close to perfect as I can, since it has some personal history. It was imported to New Zealand in 1986 by the then Renault importer Eurotrans, for the Auckland Motor Show, to signal the car becoming available here. I drove it brand spanking new as a motoring journalist (a side-line of mine here for 10 years before I had to give it away due to the pressure of other commitments) during a three day launch drive programme I organised in the South Island for Eurotrans after the show, attended by around a dozen journos.
Any suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated.
