No Clutch Pedal

Postby jon_viola » Thu May 02, 2013 5:30 pm

Just had a lovely pm getting the car ready for a work trip to Holland tomorrow.

Finish up get ready to go home and now suddenly I've no clutch pedal!

Been fine all day although reverse was a little scrunchy I guess but now no go. No leaks visable and the fluid was in the ok zone if at the bottom of it.

Suggestions?

Guess I'm not going in the Alp anyhow. Boo!!!!

I know you say that the fluid was in the OK zone, but if there is a leak and the level has dropped, the clutch is the first to stop working........ if you have not done so, check the level visually by looking into the reservoir via the filler with the cap removed in case the shadow you see from outside the reservoir is some sort of stain. Also as Lee says, check for leaks from master cylinder, but also the slave, if you can get to it..... and the brake calipers. If all is well, try bleeding.

Clutch fluid boiling in the heat? Hottest day of the year so far is it not?

Try pumping the clutch see if it comes back?

I've had this in the Blue 610 and also a R21 Turbo in the past...

i had this on the atmo twice, the first time i rebled the clutch and it got the pedal back and it was ok possibly a bubble.of air trapped the second was a failed slave ..can you see the slave on a turbo?

As you say hottest day of the year so far and I'd had the a/c on all day which inevitably adds to the heat (although the fans kept the temp well below the 90 mark)

Hopefully it's just a bleed but I don't have a kit and need to get off early tomorrow so v sadly it looks like its the Badke Bus....

This may not be much help but, I occasionally lose my clutch when it's stinking hot - I know the fluid is old and needs replacing which is on my List of things to Do.

Also,my friends GTA (early model 1987 Turbo) quite often lost the clutch when hot. The clutch lines ran close to the turbo and there was a factory fix to re-route the lines. Later models had the lines re routed as standard.

I have the factory advice note if you want it.

That would be something worth putting in the Technical Help section, I for one would like a copy please (1986 GTA).

Continental roads, a sports car and a sunny long weekend.
That's pretty much the definition of a perfect motoring weekend :)

Is it because you can get above 13MPH the average speed in London and surrounding areas
