Which Tyres - 16 inch frims on the front

Postby blueg33 » Mon Feb 11, 2013 8:20 pm

Hi Folks

My new rimz for the front of the GTA are 16 inch diameter, what is the best tyre size? I am thinking 195 45 or 205 40.

(rims are 7.5j wide)

I use 215 40 16's on 7.5" Azev wheels on the front and 265 40 17's on 10" Azevs on the back. I find these very grippy and not too hard a ride. Hope this helps.

Thanks

I can get a good deal on Toyo Proxes for those sizes at the moment

I have found that year after year, CAMSKILL seem to be the best place for tyre prices, for both Proxies for the road ands R888s for the track.

I've found that etyres, tyre traders, mytyres and Camskill are all similar but it depends which has what on a special. 8)

Well I am well pleased.

I found that the tyres in my garage that I have been hanging onto for a couple of years are Toyo Proxes in exactly the right size for the front and the at 215 40 16 and they have 7 mm of tread and are undamaged! I knew they would come in handy some day.

Rears I have ordered from Tyredrive from them Toyo Proxes are £30 cheaper than anywhere else and Camskill dont stock them

Thanks for the tip, Andrew.
Is there still plenty clearance at the rear with those 265s? I'm running 255/40/17s and there's not much more than a finger's width between the tyres and the arches. I guess we're looking at 4mm overall diameter difference but I was just wondering what the clearance end up like

This is a picture of my rear wheels with 265/40/17 on 10" Azev wheels.

There's more than enough clearance by the looks of it. :)

Thanks Andrew.

Looks pretty much the same as my 255/40/17s.

I reckon I'll have a go with the 265s when the time comes.
