anyway, the fan is very easy to remove, 3 10mm nuts hold the renex unit in place and i think another one or two for the fan.

your window should not mist up if you do your mod to the rear window keepers.

you can't come this far and start him'ing and haw'ing about a fan!!! :wink:

I think peterg only meant 90Kgs was very fat for a passenger.
I guess for the driver it must ok.

Youre right its not very fat...got my conversions wrong....had it down as nearly 20 stone...which its not! Sorry!
How heavy is that fan? Thats the question....it does seem to do quite some work!!

Pete why dont to reverse the polarity on the Turbo fan, so it sucks up cold air from the floor, and fit some new ducting from the fan to your pipe work that leads to your intercooler chamber, so you now have water spray with forced air flowing over it. It will be flowing a decent amount of air into the chamber at low speeds too..

Saying, that..its thermostatically controlled, so you may as well hook up the live from an ignition feed so it permanently runs when the key is turned, otherwise its only running at the mo when the engine bay gets to a certain temperature..

I realise that your comment was laden with inuendo Simon.....but you have hit the nail on the head!!!!! Having dismantled the thing to check the blades they only really work when used to suck as they are heavily scalloped in one direction and the set up cant be reversed...D'oh!!!! I have hooked it up to a battery and its a bit feeble when blowing.If I could be bothered I'd make some blades up, but it seems like a lot of trouble!
Anyone have any bright ideas?????

I know this isn't in line with your weight loss programme, But It's always a good idea to have some cool air blowing around the alternator.
They can get very warm in traffic which dries the bearings.

Unless it's heavy, in which case dump it....

Well do what you have just said then, suck cool air from the rear of the car through the intercooler and blow it out the bottom of the car, just as the existing setup is..

Thought that sucking air from the rear was probably not going to work when there is already going to be some motion of air in the opposite direction, so Ive used Araldite to add flat carbon fibre blades on top of the existing ones.....the new ones may not be scalloped but theyre twice the size. I will let you know the results!!!!

The latest results are........having examined the fan further, it would appear that changing the polarity doesnt actually make the fan blow instead of suck!!!! It must spin the other way, but due to the layout of the thing it still sucks, just a lot less succesfully. Fortunately the fan mounts are equidistant apart so Ive turned it round so the exit now faces to the intercooler and run pipe to it so its all working rather well now.
