"Professional drivers are encouraged but not compulsory."

I would nominate Peterg in his ART prepared GTA.
Must be a contender and bound to have a big following. (Track cars as well as supporters).

No chance! Apart from the fact my car probably hasnt got enough power anyway, the fact that the only rules are 'has to be road legal and run road tyres' means its virtually a free for all. MSA list 1B tryes such as Avon ACB10 s are worth quite a few seconds round a track like Donnington over tyres such as mine that are list 1A (list 1 B tyres are road legal but sticky compound), theres also a weight thing........most of the front runners will probably be stripped to the bone!

Its the kind of thing David should be doing....loads of money( :D ), experience in tuning and access to everything he needs to make a 400bhp GTA.

nah, no matter what you do, somebody will come along with something bigger and better!

Ive got a couple of friends with Renault 5s, both around 235bhp...one pulls 0-60 in 3.98 and the other can pull the standing quarter in 12.1 seconds...now even that takes some beating!

Renault 5s????!!!!!! I assume you are talking about the front wheel drive variety???? A nicely lightened GTA with 300bhp would make mincemeat out of them.....as for a 400bhp one....well....what are you waiting for??? :D

Different league!

Postby Tony Smith » Mon Feb 28, 2005 8:57 pm

These guys will be serious players - 450-900 bhp Mitsi Evo's, 500 bhp Cossies, 700-1000bhp Skylines, big big bucks to compete against these sort of guys.
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

I'd say!!! If you had enough money to make a 400bhp+ Alpine, strip it out to gain a serious weight advantage and run the best tyres available you'd probably do quite well, but you still wouldnt win. Some clever dick will have supercharged a TVR or big yank engined V8 and come up with a 700bhp car and bang goes your weight advantage and any chance of coming close to a win!!!!!

Westfield SEight

Postby Tony Smith » Tue Mar 01, 2005 6:30 pm

I was down the pod last year and one of those Westfield SEights was there with a big capacity highly tuned Rover V8 - High 10's at 130 mph with ease, the guy reckoned it had getting on for 500bhp per ton!
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

Then theres the latest generation of bike V8 engined seven replicas, not to mention radicals and the latest Caterham R500 evo.....although to be fair the ad does say there will be classes for similar cars so it should be a little more even than it might look at first.
