Adjusting turbo boost

Postby Juzzblack » Sun Jan 30, 2005 3:07 pm

I've recently got my car back since having the head gaskets done. (See: http://www.renaultalpine.co.uk/PHPBB/ph ... .php?t=320 )

However, it still isn't running right.

At D.G's suggestion, I've unhooked the turbo actuator rod and tried turning it a few turns, in an attempt to increase the boost. I loosened the lock nut on the threaded part and tried winding the end of the rod a few turns. I assume it's supposed to wind along the threaded part, but mine was turning the whole rod. So I don't think I changed the boost at all, it had no effect.

Am i right in thinking the whole rod isn't supposed to turn, just the end half is supposed to wind up and down the thread?

You have to hold the rod with a pair of mole grips, while turning the other end with a spanner/pliers etc.., otherwise it will rotate like you have had. You want to wind it in, only a few mm at a time...

Cheers David, I tried that but it was only a half-hearted attempt! I wanted to be sure before I risked breaking it by trying too hard.

I'll have another go, at the next opportunity.
