GTA V6 Turbo buying tips please

Postby mogster242 » Thu Apr 22, 2010 9:13 pm

Hi all

i am new on the forum, and am looking to buy a GTA V6 Turbo. As a frenchman i grew up with A310 around and then the GTA, i always loved those cars and envied their owners.

Thought it was time to get one....

I am however not an expert in alpines and would apreciate any tips of what to look at, usual problems, etc... so i don't get wreck or if i do at least knowing so... going to see one on the weekend :D

thanks in advance.

Rot in inaccessible places .
Check the doors for movement that is not hinge related .Bottom of the rear turrets where the exhaust run close by .Rear subframe in general .Rear wishbones rot and also bushings .Inside the rear arch at the top there is a rectangular box section ,check it is in good nick .
Seatbelt mountings for front seats .
Get it up to temp then take for a test drive .It should not get much above the 90 mark .Have the heater on and check if it runs cold at any point .
General stuff , body bits can be expensive to replace but not to buy so if you are hands on then .....
Electrical stuff can come and go ......

Well i would repeat the best advice that was given to me. And that is to go and see as many as possible.
I saw 6 in total, and the difference between all the cars was unreal. Each one was different in one way or another. In terms of character, drivabillity. And of course the amount of work the vehicle needed to reach the standard i wanted.

I joined lots of various car forums, and posted up that i was looking for a GTA.
Before you know it, people start emailing you with cars that are availible. Even ones that are not advertised anywhere.

The car i picked in the end i considered to be way ahead of all the other ones i looked at. And now after a few months work its near perfection.
Its my daily driver, and without doubt the best Drivers Car i have ever owned. Very rewarding to drive in terms of performance, and at the same time it can be a tame daily town car returning 27mpg ave.

Hi mogster242,
I see you're in Bournemouth too, if you're seriously looking then your quite welcome to meet up and I'll show you some of the areas the guys have pointed out on my GTA.

I spent the best part of two years searching for a reasonable one. Probably looked at 5 or so before travelling to South Wales to buy my blue one.

There don't seem to be many around at the moment to be honest. I would try and see as many as you can but don't dilly dally as they are are rare sight for sale these days.

Deep down I think you know whether to walk away or not, service history is a big plus as well as condition

As Martin say's there are not many arround an far less A610's & GTA Le Man's. There are some on ebay but they are silly money from traders. It took me ages to find what i was after but that is what it is all about, wait till the right one turns up, but I would pay the extra for a good one as a dog will end up being super expensive to put right now!!
