Engine Stall (occasional)

Hi folks, just looking for a little further advice from the engine specialists out there - I know there are plenty of you!

Anyway, my engine (LM) occasionally stalls, usually if I've been driving for a while, engine temp normal, and pull up rather briskly from fair speed. It always starts again instantly and idles fine, but whatever is meant to sustain the idle doesn't always seem to cope with the rapid rpm drop. I'm sure there is a unit/valve somewhere that can be cleaned or replaced, but the manual, yet again, is hardly explicit and of course doesn't cover the D502!

In all other respects the engine behaves perfectly. Car has just 24K on the clock and has just been through the MOT with a very 'clean' emissions check.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Sounds like the idle control valve (located on the top lhs of the engine). I think it's a bosch unit in a T shape. You will need to take it off and clean it with wd40 or similar.

Thanks Martin. It does have a Bosch label (on the 'hidden' side); I'll have a go at it soon. Before I do, I presume that I will be able to get to its innards to clean it out - anything I need to be careful about?

No need to take it apart, just do what Martin suggested. DeLoreans can also suffer this symptom and you -can- work around it by adjusting the throttle stop very slightly (on the GTA) to give the idle system a bit more "headroom". Try cleaning the valve first though.
