A610 Engine Bay Warning Light

Finally got the Alpine out this afternoon for a blast after all this snow has finally cleared up here.

I have this small issue where the light comes on after (never during) a restart when you have had a good blast. It then goes out after 1 or 2 miles.

In other words drive for 20-30 mins nothing, stop for fuel and restart then the light comes on. Drive for a short while and light goes out. Anyone had this, could be a relay I presume or is it genuinely running hot and it is a fault?

I would agree if it came on when driving. It doesn't though, only after restarting the engine. Or are you saying it's because the car is stood still and no air is getting to it when driving?

my gta turbo does it all the time , the heat builds up in the engine bay and the warning light comes on. drive the car for 3 or 4 minutes,the temp falls back to normal and the light goes out. i might get some timers fitted to the engine bay fans because they run for so long when i park the car it flattens the battery. rear engine cars, they all have this problem, to much heat.

Surely there is a reason why the light comes on though? I've never had that warning light and the car has been hot enough to 'trigger it' many times.

Martin, I am assuming the two rear fans are running correctly after you stop. Did you notice this happening when you first got the 610?

John, have you checked that the warning light circuit works :wink: ...the easy way to check is, with the ign on, short out the two connectors on the thermostatic switch, and the light should come on. If you cant tell which switch is which, short out each of them.....one will bring on the fans, the other the warning light,

I haven't checked but the fans work fine. What I meant was that I've had my car running in the same circumstances and the light has never been on but I guess that is because it is running correctly and thus there is no need for a 'warning' light to tell me otherwise?

Yes John, I understand that, but you say "...the car has been hot enough to "trigger it" many times" , and clearly you have not seen the light come on.....thats the reason I suggested it should be checked.....but you are quite right, everything could be fine, but its worth checking in my view :wink:

I have never had the high temperature light come on mine, and also not checked it works. Macon in relatively high temperatures and some heavy use did not trigger the lamp.
The first thing I'd check is that the engine bay fans work- mine certainly do-as the car will run them for ages after being parked up on a hot day.
I don't have a gearbox scoop fitted just now, and this still seems to have been OK.
Next it might also be worth checking the sensors are the right way around and that the warning light and fan triggers switches are in the right place relatively.

I did this by accident once - not saying it's deffo your problem but the most obvious cause is someone has accidentally swapped the wires to the two temp switches that face the turbo heatshield - so the low temp one triggers the light instead of the engine bay fans. If it were to get even hotter the fan would eventually come on

My 610 engine bay fans would kick in after maybe 1min after driving, either parked up or in traffic idling. The light never came on.

Could be the sensor breaking down and becoming too sensitive!

When I first got my GTA one of the cooling fans (RHS) was siezed. Whilst driving it was ok but then the warning light started to illuminate when either in traffic or stopped. I believe the top sensor lights the warning lamp and the bottom one turns the fans on.

My GTA game me this problem when one of the relays that turns the engine fans on stopped working. Basically it stopped one of the engine fans from coming on and then the warning light would come on.

I only ever get the engine bay temperature light glow occasionally when things are really hot in there. It never seems to light properly but gently glows briefly.
However, after reading Stunned Monkey's post, I'd like to check that everything is wired the correct way round, just to be sure!

On a GTA, which way round should the wires go and which sensor is which?
