Engine removal

I'm considering dropping the engine/gearbox out of my car to do all the gaskets and oil seals but I don't have a hydraulic ramp. Is it possible to do the job without a ramp and if so what will I need?

i think the quickest method is to drop subframe, suspension, gearbox and engine all out as one unit. if you raise your car up on axle stands to provide enough clearance to remove to unit, then all you need is a long reach high lifting floor fork lift ( like a larger pallet truck ), remove 8 bolts from the subframe and the top nuts from the shocks and drop it down!
oh yeah, best to remove the wiring loom from the ecu etc from inside the car and leave the rest on the engine.

Is it an "option" to support the subframe on axle stands or a pallet truck and lift of the car body by hoisting it up from your garage roof or under a big A frame type hoist?

better still disconnect engine from gearbox and remove engine with engine crane without need for supporting car etc by lifting engine only upwards - much simpler

no offence to anybody, having taken the engine only out from an atmo and a turbo, i found the atmo was handy to do, but the turbo was a much longer job. providing you have or can get the equipment i still think that everything out is the way to go, especially if you want to do a complete rear end over haul.
