Tappet adjustment - Mental Block

So I've buried down to the off side rocker cover and removed it. Just cant remember how to adjust the tappets... Find TDC? then No1 is rocking... something like that. Oh, and what are the clearances. Its a Turbo.

... and another thing....

There is a plastic/rubber pipe that runs alongside the fuel lines near where the metal water pipes appear in the engine bay. All three are clad in that asbestos type fabric tube. It connects to a metal pipe which goes on the the inlet manifold. Mine was cracked... is that my pressurised air leak?
Anyone know the part no... I've scoured the parts list but cant see it.

Cold tappet clearance is 0.1 inlet and 0.25 exhaust. All clearances in the manual are given as the same across the board on standard engines

Whip out #1 spark plug and using a long screwdriver, find TDC.

With #1 at firing stroke, you can adjust

Inlet 1 Exhaust 1
Inlet 2 Exhaust 3
Inlet 4 Exhaust 6

With #1 on the rock

Inlet 3 Exhaust 2
Inlet 5 Exhaust 4
Inlet 6 Exhaust 5

To work out which TDC you're at, just see if #1 rockers have play - if so, you're on the top table, if not, you're on the bottom table (or look at #5 and vice-versa). Rotate engine 360 to swap.

Oh, BTW TDC should obviously correspond to the mark on the pulley hitting the timing mark on the cover - I'm in the habit of using a screwdriver because the DeLorean has multiple marks which can be ambiguous

you can verify the firing stroke by removing the dizzy cap too.

Anyone used a Gunsons "clickadjust" on the PRV?
If so can someone tell me what each click represents as a clearance on the PRV? (its even illustrated in the GTA manual)

I know I'm begin lazy because I can work it out on the first tappet, but its so much quicker to ask....(and I know the clearances are its 0.1 inlet and 0.25 exhaust)

your pipe thing is the servo vacuum.

i set tappets by turning the cam so the heel of the lob is facing the follower. i set each tappet in turn, ie just working on the offside head and work my way along the cam. much longer, but much quieter tappets. :wink:

as long as the cam and followers are unmarked the feeler blades are the only way to go.

the only variable is that everyone has their own ideas of the level of 'feel' with the blade.

managed it fine.... over a year ago now though!

The only issue was remembering where everything went putting it back together.

Well its back together and running, 11/12 are very quiet, one still a tiny bit bit loose- fortunately on the left bank so relatively easy to do again.
The car sounds so much better it was worth it, but on a A610 its a really long job.
The left hand bank is relatively simple (looking back on it now, removing the idle valve and turbo oil feed only) but the right hand bank is a nightmare- especially as on mine (maybe all A610's?) the tray that holds the main water pipes up, also retains the cam cover - you have to remove the exhaust, loosen the tray from underneath and then wiggle the cam cover off !!.
No wonder most garages seem to "forget" its a 30k service item.
I won't be doing that again in a hurray.
Setting the tappets itself is a doddle

feelers, moved down the cam with each one on the heel. The one that is audible is the first one I set- I haven't done tappets for years.......I guess I lost the touch initially.
